This did not disappoint. Laughed a lot more than I though I would.

It has some typical weak parts, but it doesn’t really matter. It did enough for this kind of comedy.

I liked it better than the movies you compared it to. And I normally love Kaufman.

I'm not sure you're right about its intentions. "Evil" is too strong a word but it is purposefully off-putting and mean spirited. Ari has talked a lot about that.

I'm ok with mean-spirited. I'm ok with investigating the power of negative emotionality, hate, and fear. By "not evil" I meant like "not actively trying to make ME hate someone". Like a Nazi movie or a Christian movie

the scenes where he's trying to psych himself up to have sex with that other woman, when he gets a visit from Jordan Peele while on the toilet, and Peele explaining to Rudd how his car ended up in a lake are great.

Just started Out of the Furnace. I did not realize this was the Rodlease movie.

I didn't care for the mommy stuff, but the existential terror of being thrown into an insane world and flailing around in pain and confusion until you finally just die is right up my alley. Even better that it's all a comedy.

I don't mind art being intentionally off-putting in and of itself. There's a ton of intentionally off-putting art that I quite enjoy. It's the combination of meta whoa-is-me persecution complex and mean spirited audience alienation that gets to me with Beau. And of course that fact that the movie actually sucks. I could probably overlook the worst elements of the film if there was anything at all interesting, thoughtful, competent or good about it. The biggest flaw in this whole discussion is that something this artless shouldn't be called "art."

I feel that. I'm here for a movie that's like "no, let's actually plunge into the bad vibes, the absurdity of the despair, and laugh at it to an uncomfortable extent." Coupled with the really cool and audacious filmmaking... I'm into it
