The one consistent criticism I’d give to the BOB mixed songs on Binaural is that there’s generally a lack of depth and width. The stereo spread is fairly crowded, and most tracks of the guitars are right at the front of your speaker, rather than set back a bit to create some depth.
Binaural scores an avg of 7. TO be fair, it appears the scale doesn't go beyond 14, which makes the explanation above a bit confusing. Nonetheless:
Grievance has the weakest range on the album (scores a 6) except for Insignificance (another great song that suffers bc of this production). Frankly, even if you don't understand dynamic range and compression, you can just hear it. The impression is flat, blunt, and really hurts some of the tracks. I know they have much more potential, but I can't hear it.

I have it on good authority that the new album is titled "A Bit of Papa Juliett"

Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
Why I'm pumped for a new album:
1. Ed's gonna have a few moments. He always does w/ that voice and delivery.
2. Mike's gonna have at least one melt your face solo.
3. Stone and Jeff are gonna add some rhythm and funk to one track.
4. Watt is a big fan. He did great with the Earthlings.
5. At the very least, 4-6 songs will stay with me.
6. There's a tour coming in support of the record.
7. Stip and Kevin Davis song breakdowns.
8. Tour plans!
9. New music to listen to on my way to work.
10. See all above, dudes!

11. We’ll all get the chance to chew on this album, love it, experience the backlash, the backlash to the backlash, and all post brand spanking new rankings on the Rank the Albums thread. If we’re lucky, we’ll renew the “does Lost Dogs count as an album” discussion, if we’re unlucky, we’ll reopen the drummer debate. Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
The vinyl ratings are notoriously suspect, as they are all sourced from individual users, and it's really difficult to control for their measurement (e.g., are they measuring the silence in the run-out groove, between songs, etc...And have they even properly calibrated their cartridge and phono stage? ). It's my suggestion that you take vinyl DR ratings with a big grain of salt.Buby wrote:Hawt indeed.Chris_H_2 wrote:This is so hawtDDWJMUVW wrote:"The “Unofficial” Dynamic Range Database uses a sliding scale from 1 to 20 (1 being the worst, 20 being the best) to rank the dynamic quality of each of the recordings they list. Re: 12th album rumors and speculation
Look what I started. Listened to the album version 4/5 times this am and Ed’s vocal delivery is actually quite strong. The drums sound so can-ny though. Stone’s robotic synth verse riff makes me want to vomit and destroys the raw groove he has on the live versions. . It takes a special asshole to ruin such good writing. Nice going Chad with a T.Buby wrote:Granted.tragabigzanda wrote:The vinyl ratings are notoriously suspect, as they are all sourced from individual users, and it's really difficult to control for their measurement (e.g., are they measuring the silence in the run-out groove, between songs, etc...And have they even properly calibrated their cartridge and phono stage? ). I'd love to know what the Yield 25th VMP DR numbers look like, but it's not listed.
Also looks like Vitalogy has the highest DR than any other PJ studio album on there.
Would still love to know how Yield 25th looks like side by side.

I also don’t find the guitars to be particularly edgy, but that’s more a matter of taste.

I see that he did in fact mix after Blake’s version did not satisfy the band.
