He isn't having fun in a ya ya yea&hh aw way. It's more of a cross between a wise smart ass wizard and drunkle other wise known as drunk uncle. Also throw in a progressive insurance commercial about not becoming your parents.
He is very authentic that is why the bit of cheese is pleasing. He is taking down the walls and being himself or at least it feels that way. It is on some level enduring.
