There's nothing 'original' here either (I don't mean that as a critique). It's a story we all knew the ending to going in, with no chance of shaking up the star wars universe, that shoehorns just as much fan service into the story as TFA (although it has to work harder at it since other than Vader it only really have access to the B material). That's fine. What made R1 work were fantastic visuals and a terrific set of final action sequences (punctuated by that great Vader moment). What made TFA work was the excellent job it did creating new characters worth following for several films (and that thrilling final confrontation in the snow with Rey, Finn, and Ren). But in terms of originality we're still waiting. We have yet to see a new star wars movie willing to really break the mold in terms of story telling. Instead we've gotten two really good, extremely enjoyable movies that each reflect the personality and highlight the strengths (and weaknesses) of the their directors

Really? TFA felt like it never stopped. This seemed to be rather plodding in some areas (which i loved)

Except Kylo didn't want to kill him, and felt horrible about it afterwards. The emotional impact of the exchange comes from the fact that none of it needed to happen, as Ren is trapped in a story he doesn't really believe in
