The more I watch early Smashing Pumpkins performances, the more convinced I am that James and D'arcy's secondary role was to play the parts competently, and their main role was to look cool. I am OK with that.

Kind of on that, I think I recall Billy saying that, even when they weren't contributing very much musically, James and especially D'arcy played quite a significant role as a quality filter for what songs made the records, what lyrics they didn't like, etc.

sbs has better high points, but overall i think it's a far weaker full album

How do you listen to My Bloody Valentine? It's just not consistent. It's not relaxing so I can't read/work and listen to it. It's not upbeat so I can't listen to it while exercising. It's just...drone. What mindspace do I need to be in here?

Uh, the mindspace of wanting to listen to beautiful fucking music. If you want to listen to music you can ignore maybe put on Lightning Bolt.

I like droney stuff in my headphones when I'm on long runs/bike rides/hikes.

Some of it is definitely relaxing. Maybe not workig music though.

They have some good songs but the drone stuff is beyond me. I keep feeling like the music is building to go somewhere but it doesn't, kind of like that thing that Zimmer used in Dunkirk.

Sounds to me like it's going to cover most of his career. So we're probably getting in depth behind the scenes looks at the songwriting and recording processes.

Clicked to see if one of them was "authored" by Chris Gaines. Disappointed.
