The fact that this whole congressional exemption travesty isn't causing immediate violence targeted at these politicians is the ultimate proof that the American public has been successfully pacified

Armond White just retweeted Paul Joseph Watson and I just lost the last sliver of respect I had left for him.

You realize nothing has actually happened yet right? No changes have been made to the law.

Who cares? The fact that they're even proposing it is enough.

They've been voting to repeal "Obamacare" for several years now. It doesn't matter. Even if a new law is passed at some point it will simply be repealed and modified by the next congress.

No one has done anything to address the real issue (that we pay WAY more for healthcare than any other country in the world)

All that bill is going to do is push us over the cliff to single payer or kick the can down the road a year or so the same way they've been carrying along the budget.

Even the "liberal" media is completely propped up by drug company advertising.

I'm always surprised that there are incumbents that win elections but violence against them. Nah.

But, you're absolutely right, Congress passing a medical law that exempts them... is bullshit.

I'm going to need a shower after writing this because it sounds like I'm defending them, but in the interest of accuracy...the congressional exemption isn't actually a big deal. In order to be able to pass this bill in the Senate through the reconciliation process, which doesn't allow filibusters, the House had to create this exemption. They have already drafted a separate bill to get rid of this exemption, but the catch is that that bill will be subject to a Senate filibuster so Democrats have the potential to block that from taking place in an effort to embarrass the GOP I suppose, but that could certainly backfire.

If they got rid of the exemption in the original bill the Democrats could filibuster it, so this is really a procedural move more than anything else.

Weren't they already exempt from ACA requirements? I seem to recall a bunch of republican who gong about that.

I have a feeling If we ever did manage to get our healthcare under control, other countries would see their healthcare costs skyrocket since we no longer subsidize their costs.

I'm not sure if you can point to any one state in the nation and say that can be used as a national model. 50 states equate to 50 different strategies.

Totally. But I just thought it was funny that there were two articles this week with a similar thrust: MT dems know how to speak to rural progressives.

I think the general idea of working on your messaging in the interior, generally red states is one the Democrats need to take seriously. Even if it means spending time in states you think you'd never win.

This is emphasized even more so with with Congress, governors, and state legislators, locations the Democrats have frequently struggled in for varying reasons.

I recommend listening to last week's This American Life episode. It shows how placing immigration in the middle of Eric Cantor's re-election bid cost him his seat and was the model for the Trump presidential run.
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.
