“I’d just be happy to be in there somewhere” gets the biggest laugh from me

I recall it losing steam in the last 20-30 minutes, but I should give it another watch. Hate though, spike? That's surprising.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Watching mother! now. Never seen it before. Think Darren Aronofsky has made some amazing movies, and the cast here is excellent as well. Thought about saving in the final 10-20 movies of 2017, but my wife didn’t want to see it, so I’m watching it alone, while she’s at work, daughter is sleeping.

Also started Lego Batman. Hilarious. Will finish that and Logan tomorrow.

mother!

Seen straight forward, this movie made no sense. But once you start thinking of the (at times heavy handed) allegories, it not only makes a lot more sense, but it’s quite good.

I think it would have been better if it worked equally well both ways, but I certainly enjoyed it.

That movie is not asking you to do anything outside the allegory. The movie and the allegory are one. There is nothing outside the allegory. The allegory isn't heavy-handed, it simply is. There is no other story but the story of the allegory. Don't look past the allegory, don't ignore the allegory.
All is allegory, allegory is all

If that were true it wouldn't be an allegory

If the movie was not supposed to work at all without the allegory, they could have gone a lot further than they did.

It's like Animal Farm. Animal Farm is an allegory, but it's meaningless if you just want to ignore the Russian stuff and pretend it's a story about cute farm animals. All can be allegory, allegory can be all

Finished Lego Batman earlier today, and now we’re finally finishing Logan.

Please Stand By

« A young autistic woman runs away from her caregiver in an attempt to submit her 500-page manuscript to a "Star Trek" writing competition at Paramount Pictures.»

I too dreamt of writing a Star Trek script when I was a teenager.

But the point is that Animal Farm can still work as a story about farm animals, and Anders contends (and I agree with him) that Mother doesn't work in its diegetic dimension

Super Dark Times

« Teenagers Zach and Josh have been best friends their whole lives, but when a gruesome accident leads to a cover-up, the secret drives a wedge between them and propels them down a rabbit hole of escalating paranoia and violence.»

A bit disappointed with this so far. Need a top class final hour.

I remember liking it, but not loving it.
