He's talked about how much he loves Dune. It's been a dream project for him. There was even some speculation that he got Blade Runner 2049 as a sort of test run for Dune.

But I had not heard there had been an official announcement of the project. That's awesome. I'll absolutely see it. No question.

I saw another article/interview where he said they are going back to the roots, to the book. So he is talking like it is happening. Man oh man, I may have just leaked a little...
