Not that surprising. I'm guessing that the last few days have been the best ever for Twitter. I wonder what their numbers will be in a month.

Where did Bongino come from anyway? I never heard of that guy until like a month ago. Seems pretty generic to me.

He’s also a co-owner of Parler.

and his master just informed him to STFU about stolen elections or he'll be fired

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/11/busi ... levin.html
Cumulus Media, a talk radio company with a roster of popular right-wing personalities including Dan Bongino, Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro, has ordered its employees at 416 stations nationwide to steer clear of endorsing misinformation about election fraud or using language that promotes violent protest.

Brian Philips, an executive vice president of Cumulus, issued the directive in a stern memo on Wednesday after a pro-Trump mob breached the halls of Congress. Addressed to employees working in the company’s programming and talent divisions, including those at its syndication arm, Westwood One, the memo included an introduction in bold typeface, with many words capitalized for emphasis.

“We need to help induce national calm NOW,” it began.

“Cumulus and Westwood One will not tolerate any suggestion that the election has not ended,” the memo continued. “The election has resolved, there are no alternate acceptable ‘paths.’ Please inform your staffs that we have ZERO TOLERANCE for any suggestion otherwise. If you transgress this policy, you can expect to separate from the company immediately. There will be no dog-whistle talk about ‘stolen elections,’ ‘civil wars’ or any other language that infers violent public disobedience is warranted, ever.”

As an aside on the whole Trump Twitter banning, it occurs to me that whilst he has a full PR and media staff at his disposal, as well as a complete ready-to-go press conference facility within his own house, no longer being able to tweet is an absolute killer for Trumpy Boy. With tweets he can spew out his words without any thought or comeback. When he's face-to-face, especially in a press conference setting, he has to potentially answer questions, and I don't believe he often actually knows the answers or has the ability to formulate reasonable responses.

Trump is a very stupid man.

Try having an original thought, pal.

If Twitter and Facebook had blocked him for any of the literally hundreds of threats, personal attacks, or lies over the past year, I would get the “slippery slope” logic. But it took a deadly riot at the Capitol by supporters that he continued to express support for and encourage. It seems super premature to even assume this means anything at all going forward.
I think that the pursuant user response will ultimately dictate future behavior. That is, if their user base doesn’t plummet, and/or they can leverage the appearance of “factually rigorous censorship” into more lucrative revenue streams (pro accounts, payment for Tweets appearing on news programs, things like that), then I imagine they’ll continue down this path.
A lot of free press for Twitter over this whole thing

Also kinda be funny if the tech companies drive up the cost of H1B visa salaries after India starts subsidizing their own FAANG equivilents.

Britain is solidly locked in with us. A new continental/Anglosphere split coming?

Telegram says they've had 25 million new users in the last 72 hours.

They seem to be more difficult to shut down. I don't know much about that stuff though.

Whatsapp just started requiring data sharing with Facebook, so everybody jumped over.

We laugh about this but moving all the clown plotting to heavily encrypted, often foreign owned channels isn’t exactly helpful in the near term. Probably should have waited until after the inauguration to shut down Parler so they would be easier to monitor and stop
