We really want to make this place our new spot for late night bites and cocktails. It's cozy as hell, has a super friendly bar staff, and is just a few blocks from our house. Trouble is, me and my gf both work late night restaurant jobs and our only day off together is Monday when it's closed.

There's a restaurant near me that was called Cooking Girl yesterday, but today it changed to Pepper Twins. Same menu. Same owner. Same dining room. New name. How did this happen? Was the cooking girl replaced by the Pepper twins? Is she one of the twins? If so, was the other twin a surprise? The plot thickens.

last night, after a long ass week and since we didn't have to get home to the dog, the wife and i decided to live it up and finally check out bavette's. many consider this the best steak in chicago - which is tough competition - and my 16 oz ribeye did not disappoint. nor did the house made sourdough bread, the salmon tartare, or my wife's pound of king crab. the service was also exemplary, which made the final bill a bit easier to stomach.

It's such a good feeling when you arrive at this conclusion after a good meal and exceptional service. Full stomach, good company, no regrets.

Spike, CH2, etc. I just learned that the head chef at our favorite neighborhood spot worked for about a decade on some lines in a couple places in y'all's neck of the woods. L20 and Moto? Google tells me they're closed now. What happened with those spots?

It's not in my neighborhood at all. But there's a new(is) Mexican restaurant in Hell's Kitchen that is fucking outstanding!

Nobie’s is still our neighborhood spot, but the bartender wasn’t as fun last night because he’s not drinking in January. Tried something new there. Basically fois gras over sushi rice. Holy hell that was good. Made up for the fact that un-fun sober bartender was playing sad bastard vinyl on the stereo.

Sometimes you finally go in to a place in your neighborhood for years, and when you do, you ask yourself two questions:
1. How has this place survived for so long?
2. How have we not been here sooner??
El Pueblito Patio is definitely that kind of place. Empty all the time, kind of run down but with a super gimmicky charm to it for cheap.
$3 Margaritas for happy hour, some sort of ridiculous looking drink served in a pineapple, SHITTY karaoke complete with drunken Spanish ballads, and personal shaded cabanas all across their patio for you and your group. This place has got to be cartel owned to have this much overheard with this little business over the last umpteen years.
We will be going back for more $3 margaritas and flank steak nachos soon.

In my new job I travel quite a bit. My first trip took me to Orlando and Indianapolis, where I found a few good neighborhood eateries. This will hopefully be an added perk of the job.
