Wow>Dreams, but they're both just fine. Non-acoustic Beck peaked somewhere between Midnite Vultures (Sexx Laws, Debra) and Guero (the whole record).

I thought Dreams was hot as hell. It came out a couple summers ago though right?

Beck's career can never peak. It can only ebb and flow like the current of a mighty river.

That's an interesting take. You should listen to Mutations.

Beck's last good album for me was Guero. I was so excited for Morning Phase because of how much I loved Sea Change (I had the CD, SACD, DVDA, and even the Blu-Ray) and that was a let down. Maybe it was expectations, but it wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

I felt the same way after one listen. And I don't feel like listening again right now.

"Seventh Heaven" sounds like a reimagining of the 7th Heaven theme song.
so... a success?

This ended up being better than expected, considering I was not at all fan of several of the early singles, but this is definitely Beck trying on a pop hat for a record. It's probably the record that sounds most self-conscious about trying to do a certain thing since Midnite Vultures The title track is my favorite and Wow sticks out like a sore thumb; I don't like the song and it doesn't really sound remotely like anything else here.
