I've had to warm to some of it
basically I loved the middle section from the beginning but the bookends had to grow on me
the closest songs they have in terms of structure are Corduroy and RVM; that was my way in

I just realized why I'm into that guitar break after the first chorus - it reminds me of Just What I Needed by the Cars!

There are some really good components in this song, but since Avocado, Ed has a tendency in his songwriting to change from one part to the next very quickly. It'd be great to hear him hang on a riff or progression a little longer to build a bit more energy or momentum for an energy shift or a rhythmic payoff in the next part. This is something Stone used to be really good at (hmmmm).
Basically, dude always seems to be in a such a goddamn hurry unless he's talking between songs.

I cannot get trag’s version of this song out of my head and I’m disappointed by the real, much cheesier, song.

Wait, What’s cheesy about this song? I’m not hearing it.

I love this one. And I don’t know why but there’s all kinds of echoes to getaway for me. Which is no bad thing. That’s a great song too.
This is a classic brilliant Pj album opener

But now I do and kinda wish it was it’s own song.
It took me two listens to like it as well and now I think it's one of the most brilliant things they've done since the year 2000. Imagine this song without it. It would be Getaway or Got Some, but instead with that double build up it's my favorite track 1 since Brain of J.

Josh Evans talks about this in the excellent variety article, but most of the ‘simpler’ songs on the record have these slightly left of center features that take a few listens to process, but once you do the songs really open up. This and SBWM in particular. two of my favorites on the album but it took a little while for both of them to end up there

I do wish the cool guitar part that comes out from underneath the ‘who ever said... part in the extended bridge was longer/louder.

was fearing another spritzy punker
have tried not to blow my load with this one
pretty pleased
maybe i am just a sucker for a dissonant intro?
Matt's drums in the breakdown-to-buildup sound good
Ed's delivery on the back half of this is actually pretty good
love that they are using volume as a dynamic element... some good quiet-to-loud buildups
obv the outro is killer

i fucking love it when they just change the chord progression during the "living backwards in a forward town" line
