Do we really want to walk through a city that only has safe statues of nice people? I want to see the whole story. I want statues of tyrants, peasants, slavers, abolitionists, soldiers, murderers, explorers... I want the whole story of a people. And I want it in the city, not some dusty museum! The history should be lived daily. I want to be immersed in it. Anything less is unaesthetic.

But the future is a million cloned statues of MLK surrounded by gray soviet block housing. Then we'll finally be safe.

What is the purpose of a statue? Aren't they to honor our heroes or commemorate great sacrifice?

I mean, if they are to learn from history and share the whole story, we need statues of Osama bin Laden at Ground Zero and Isoroku Yamamoto at Pearl Harbor and Jeffrey Dahmer in Canton, Ohio.

Nah I think I'll just go back to my earlier Genghis Khan take. I like that one better. Forget my last take, everyone. Disregard.

This is the dumbest dumbguy understanding of the role statues play in public space.

Tbh I was very excited the showrunners were writing Burt back into the story but I feel like they made him extra cartoony and over the top. Are they just making up for all the Burtness we missed last season? Hopefully they settle into something that feels more natural and authentic

Should statues only be those who lead perfect lives, and had similar values like those which the left holds in high esteem in 2020? And I guess the same in 2030, 2040 and onwards. Here they want to tear down statues of Churchill. Winning the war against fascists wasn’t enough.

I'm talking about the role I think they should play. I'm innovating here!

We need more statues, not less. Gimme more stories.

Why do we need statues? Didn't we learn anything from golden cows in the Bible? Put up some art instead for Christ's sake.

Technically the Red Army won the war against the Fascists.

They weren’t even on the allied side when the Nazis were steamrolling Europe. They changed sides because Hitler broke their pact. But of course we give huge thanks to the Soviet soldiers that helped turned the tide.
