I think an artist's entire body of work should be allowed. This is the top 100 ARTISTS after all.

So jack white is a vote considering his entire body of work. Same with Josh homme, Tom Petty, etc.

I was on board for Jack White, but Homme? Kyuss wasn't really all him.

I thought about it. But I just couldn't because as much as I respect Argo and his rules in this case it's really the same thing and his name should be all encompassing.

I based my list mainly on artists that had the most impact on me at some point in my life even if they aren't currently on my favorites list, so I had to include Pearl Jam, even though I don't really care about them anymore. Is this wrong? Who can really say?

I agree. I guess my point is to make sure Asher does the right thing all of us who voted for TP should have come together to agree on the way we would refer to him/them on our list.

I brought this issue up on page 6 and it sounded like there was a tacit understanding that Asher would not be combining votes for artists who have recorded/performed under different names, artists who are known "as" a band but also perform solo, etc. I know there was someone who said they included both Bill Callahan and Smog on their list, and if you're going to count TP and TPHP as the same, you should count Bill Callahan and Smog as the same, which means whoever that was voted for the same artist twice. I know this is a lot of work for Asher, but I feel like clarification would help.

If some prick treats Kyuss as Josh Homme and /or QOTSA I'm going to get pissed.

Some obviously CANNOT be separated. In this category are:
Tom petty and the heartbreakers = tom petty
Neil young & crazy horse = neil young
Bruce springsteen and the e street band = bruce springsteen

However some CAN be separated such as :

white stripes does not equal jack white
Soundgarden does not equal audioslave does not equal chris cornell

ya know?

Also paul mccartney does not equal the beatles

I'm not disagreeing with knee tunes; that was my argument way back when.

But if people have already voted for 2 artists that should be treated as one, then they either have to submit and amended list or we've gotta treat all those entries as the same, ya know?

Maybe we could establish the ones that are one and the same:

Jason Molina, Songs: Ohia, and Magnolia Electric Co. should be considered one entity. I would entertain the idea that MECO should be separated from the other two, but it'd be best to keep them together, I think.
