They'll eventually sell to Apple, who can afford to lose money forever.

Re: Box office talk!
Disney Plus is losing subs so I wouldn't think the losses for any of these movies is being offset. In fact its a double loss since any money they would make licensing the home entertainment rights is cannibalized cause they are selling it to themselves. Retailers and toy manufacturers are not particularly happy with Disney cause the new stuff isn't selling. They are in a bad way right now. Some legacy stuff still sells though. That's all over and not really unique to Disney. Toys based on old stuff sells cause old people buy it but the new audience that many of these companies are alienating their exiting consumer base for don't exist or don't care. They'll give it a like a mention or a like twitter but they aren't paying for this stuff.tragabigzanda wrote:Honest question: Has the distribution marketplace shifted such that the timelines for recoup should be stretched out? Is today's Little Mermaid loss ultimately a net profit once you factor in streaming rentals and added subs? That would be a lot like the music industry where successful new artists typically take a couple album cycles to recoup.

“The Boy and the Heron,” a fantastical coming-of-age story from animation maestro Hayao Miyazaki, earned $12.8 million in its opening weekend, becoming the first original anime production to top the domestic box office.

Re: Box office talk!
What do you expect? The studio has already announced this franchise is dead and they're starting a new one. Maybe if they had marketed it as like a big series finale so you can say goodbye to all your beloved DC characters. But there are no beloved DC characters and this seems to be just another random chapter. This thing was doomed

I don't think anyone here is torn up about it. It's the year's final big box office flop, so it's worth discussing in the box office threadEllo Sailor wrote:Also, who the fuck cares? it's a movie for children and grown imbeciles.

Re: Box office talk!
A year in which so many high profile, big budget movies flopped is definitely interesting

Re: Box office talk!
I still dont think it's fair to judge this as some part of some dead franchise. Can't it just suck as a standalone?

I think it's as simple as if audiences were more invested (meaning: invested at all) in the surrounding films, more people would go see this one. A rising tide lifts all boats or whateverBurtReynolds wrote:I still dont think it's fair to judge this as some part of some dead franchise. Can't it just suck as a standalone?
