He’s recorded a lot of music lately, on sound cloud, the EP with Melvin’s. A lot of the lyrics are about moving on etc

His latest EP is called “new beginning”

I also remember an interview w/ Matt pinfield about dark matter where he didn’t seem very interested in talking about the songs.

I think it’s just as much creative as anything else

Ten of the best tunes they've put out in 27 years. I'm a bit bitter about that, but I'm not going to assume he was.
I could make a long list of bands where my favorite writer doesn't get enough songs lol.
We'll never know what glom of different factors played into his mind. Probably 100 different things and we can all relate.
But I don't doubt that the body breaking down was one of them.

I hope the band goes on. But I mean, I'd love it if they had some kind of unreleased song... one that really features Matt's talent and how he can and did take the band in unique and unexpected directions .. some kind of ... 'Last Word' either as a coda on his time with the band, or if they do hang it up, as a final and powerful message of their own. If only they had a song like that....

Dangit, just give us Lost Dogs 2 as a coda to Matt's time with the band. Mastered. Completed as needed. This IS the appropriate time lol. End of one era; start of the next.

it's probably a combination of everything. i think soundgarden going into the rnr hof is part of it. i think having to tour with pearl jam is another part of it.

you said they are pumping out all the stuff they want. if soundgarden is still having issues with cornell's wife they aren't pumping out all the stuff they want. if the lawsuit is resolved, i imagine the rest of soundgarden is going to want to record a lot. i assume matt cameron wants to put more energy toward that and not have to have commitments to pearl jam. i'm sure a pj tour takes a lot out of him.

I hope SG becomes a touring unit but i still dont see how that would be difficult with PJ. Maybe Pj is about to record another album and planning another tour, who knows.

What are the odds Chad Smith ends up with the band at least temporarily? What's the schedule like with the peppers? Seems like a good fit. He already collaborated and toured with Eddie vedward

unlikely. When RHCP touring is huge, like 2 or more years per tour. If Pj had a tour already booked, maybe but if not, i dont see it.

Meh. They made King Animal while Matt was in Pearl Jam. There's no way that he couldn't devote himself to cleaning up the lost files of Soundgarden. There's no way this split is about creative issues. 0 chance.

It doesn't sound like in-fighting, which is definitely not their style (at least post-2000), so I just hope that Matt is not having a health problem.

Also stop talking about soundgarden as if they're still an active thing. Cornell is gone. No Cornell no soundgarden.

It's sad, I like Matt. Like others have said, he was the only drummer I've seen play with the band. But he's the oldest in the band, right? Good for him to give the ghost. A lifetime of touring is a slog, even if you're in a legacy act like PJ.

Fingers crossed for that SKIN YARN reunion.
