It's gonna be a groovy night!
I think it's a fucking great album, and succeeds completely in what it sets out to be: a series of catchy, hooky, synth-heavy pop tracks that emphasize melody over melodrama. It's an 80s New Wave pastiche that works because they're such gifted songwriters.BurtReynolds wrote:so i remember liking The Con, so I decided to check out Tegan and Sara's latest album. what a turgid piece of shit.
i agree that it succeeds in what it sets out to be, but i'm not sure it has the noblest of intentions. It seems a day late to the synth pop party, and a far too conventional and safe attempt at it.theplatypus wrote:I think it's a fucking great album, and succeeds completely in what it sets out to be: a series of catchy, hooky, synth-heavy pop tracks that emphasize melody over melodrama. Maybe. I really like it. I think it's a super fun album, and I'm glad that it's doing so well. I think T&S have been very candid about their reasons behind making such an accessible album at this point in their careers, but I think they work really well in this genre.BurtReynolds wrote: i agree that it succeeds in what it sets out to be, but i'm not sure it has the noblest of intentions. That said, some of my favorite T&S songs have a certain murkiness to them that I miss. Hopefully the next album is able to blend both approaches, like they do in this recent live version of one of my favorite songs from "The Con":
They fuckin rule....they played here in Argentina and it was awesome...if you like these guys, check out The Melvins.theplatypus wrote:Listening to this awesome video spenno introduced me to in the old board.
I still haven't heard anything else by these guys, but I love this.
