Just finished the third season. McGregor was absolutely fascinating. I thought this season was every bit as strong as the first two. Vargas was a villain for the ages. I'm finding myself wondering if he'll pop up in a future season. Great fun to see Mr Wrench again.

You ended up feeling badly for Emmitt, Ray and Nikki, but they really brought everything upon themselves. Not initially, maybe, but in the end, for sure. About the only one that didn't deserve what happened to him was Sy.

I'm one episode behind in S4. I'm still watching, obviously. And there's enough to keep me wanting to watch. But it feels like a full letter grade lesser than the three previous seasons to me. I hope there's something surprising in store in the home stretch.

It does have me thinking about how each season has a Coen aesthetic but not always a Fargo aesthetic. S4 feels like Miller's Crossing Coens. S3 was very A Simple Man Coens. I think the reason the first season is still my favorite is that it's the full Fargo Coens. It's also the funniest, I think.

Event/plot over character. I agree. Which is unfortunate. The strength of the show (the strength of the Coens) is character. Not having someone to latch onto or really even anyone to like very much hurts. Even the villains in the previous seasons have been (if not likeable per se) fun and fascinating.

Agreed. We’re not as far into it as you guys, but so far they seem to be trying to make the teen black girl a CHARACTER as well as the nurse. But the teen just hasn’t DONE anything other than he too smart for her own good. The nurse has potential but her storyline doesn’t really seem to be going anywhere, either. The one I’m liking most is Doctor Senator. Kinda curious about the Rabbi and where they’re going with him, as well.

I do think it’s quite telling about the overall groups we’re looking at when we see how they’re treating the other side’s sons. Rock seems to be treating the Fadda kid with dignity and respect (so far). He feeds him with the rest of the family, he sees to his education, he protects him... Whereas the Faddas treat his kid terribly. He lives in a terrible attic room with the kid of the last guy they traded for and is only given a peanut butter sandwich for meals while the rest of the family feasts. It’s an interesting dichotomy.

Totally. It's not like this season has nothing to say. There's a lot going on and a lot to unpack. Even if the characters are a little thin and the motivations are a tad inconsistent.

I'm caught up with the current season. There were a couple good action sequences in the latest one that probably would have reverberated more with me if I was into the season more than I am.

I can't get into this season yet. About 3 eps in so far. Love the era, theme, cinematography. But, the lack of compelling characters so far is hurting it for me.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
