Geek USA was the closer last night. Pretty sweet. Kinda bummed I am not going to the Red Rocks show next week.

It's incredibly slept on no doubt. It was their regular set closer when I saw them in 1997 on the Mellon Collie tour. It was only my second ever concert. My little head was blown.

No, it's one of the only shows that tour that hasn't surfaced. A microcassette recording is rumored to exist but nobody's ever found it. You also got the shortest show of the tour, with just a main set and an encore of "X.Y.U.". I guess Billy was sick or something.

Billy sounds great. Wish he embraced the effects more on his vocals in the studio. Last few albums they are so dry and up in the mix. Sound crappy.

Nice. Well if you ever find it let me know.
Yes. I remember it feeling short. Of course I was 16 and it was my second ever concert (7 Mary 3 the first one) so I didn't know any better. They played Rhinoceros which was fun. Also, all of the boots I had at the time they only played Tonight, Tonight OR Where Boys Fear to Tread (a fave of mine) and then they played both that night so I was happy. Got a Rocket tease as well!
I did read an article the next day that Billy was under the weather. If memory serves that was one of their last shows after touring pretty much non stop for a year and a half. They added so many shows after Jonathan passed. I'm sure they were burnt out. I remember talking my parents into letting me go to KC with some friends in September 96 (despite it being a Sunday with school the next day) but shortly after they announced a tour date and my older brother said he'd take me.
One of my friends still talks about how great that KC show was. They played Aeroplane (one of their first times playing it), Silverfuck, Bodies, etc. Ahh memories.

I went to Champaign in '96 and I think they closed with "Aeroplane" -- must have been right around the time the box set came out...

Disneyland is the happiest place on Earth — for everyone except Billy Corgan
Fuck that, thru the eyes of ruby is my favorite smashing pumpkins song.

I really like G.L.O.W.. I thought that and Superchrist was the best thing he did in years when they came out. Better than some of the songs they have in the top 100.

People would remember Zeitgeist a lot better if
1) the production weren't so bad
2) he hadn't backloaded the album with shitty, overproduced songs
3) he hadn't shelved the two best songs he wrote during this entire era:
If they'd just returned, toured and put out an album with like their 11 best songs afterwards people would remember that era, and the band, so much better.
