The NFL has a serious problem with QBs. I only need to watch the RedZone to confirm this.

sure, but there's no way brady or any other nfl player who doesn't kick the ball is going to play into his late 40s.

The following QBs aren't "complete crap": Tannehill, Brady, Flacco, Dalton, Roethlisberger, Luck, Peyton, Smith, Rivers, Romo, Eli, Stafford, Ryan, Newton, Brees, Palmer, Kaepernick, Wilson. You might be able to add Bridgewater to that list soon as well. That's 18-19 QBs. Not all of those guys are elite but you could probably win a SB with almost any of them if the surrounding cast is right.

Grossman, who hasn't gotten into a game since 2011 but spent training camp with the Browns before being waived, has reportedly turned down Cleveland's offer. Grossman could have made $53,529 for one week of work, but it's not just any week. It's Christmas!

The Browns are expected to turn to Tyler Thigpen, who they cut this summer upon signing Grossman. Whoever it ends up being will likely be stuck on clipboard duty; Mike Pettine says undrafted rookie and practice squadder Connor Shaw is ready to start if need be.

I just watch a lot of Red Zone football and it seems that there's this combination of starting QBs getting hurt and then we're left with watching a lot of mistakes made by back-ups and their back-ups.

But then there's even some of the starters who make stupid, repeated mistakes. Maybe there's too many teams now, I dunno. Just "feel" the QB position is weak right now.

If Shaw starts for Cleveland and they sign Tyler Thigpen, that is a good day for the state of South Carolina.

Competing for a starting job is not the same thing as "starting a game in an emergency because your top 2 QBs died"

They called Rex and others, so he did compete for a starting QB job. It's irrelevant that he turned them down. Again, this proves my point that there are people out there who can compete for a starting job in the league.

It's ridiculous to concede that only "active" NFL QBs are the only people who can compete for a starting job.

Under the new deal, Brady changed the $24 million in "skill" guarantee to only "injury" guarantee, meaning that Brady now would get the guaranteed money only if he were injured.

Brady also now can be released by the Patriots without any liability, but he then would become an unrestricted free agent, free to command the type of guaranteed money he has agreed to surrender.

The move frees up cash for the Patriots to use on other players. New England needs the cash to help re-sign some of its own free agents, including cornerback Darrelle Revis, safety Devin McCourty, tackle Nate Solder and running back Shane Vereen, among others.
