Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

Mescalito was amazing and there are a few other decent songs on BP, but Mescalito is the only one I come back to.

The GH is a nice listen from start to finish, but no real standouts.

I liked Flatlands and Mack the Knife from Imitations, but the rest of that I actually struggle to remember.

But every full fledged solo album has been excellent from start to finish.

Death Rides a White Horse stands with the rest of his catalogue. Driver is great too, and so's Cold Molly.

Off Imitations, you have to give props to Deepest Shade.

yeah, those are all okay. I like them when they're on, but I have yet to really feel an urge to listen to them, or throw them on a playlist.

To Valencia Courthouse could easily fit in my top 10 Lanegan songs of all time. It's grown that much and I think it's that great.

dream lullabye is a nice song in the sleepy judas touch/bubblegum vein (but not as good as either of those)

Leaving New River is also quite good--the stark gravely torture that he does so well. It does feel a bit like a sketch, though

Sympathy is nothing special. Same with Valencia Courthouse. They're filler tracks. They'd be pleasant links between stronger songs. The harmony parts in VC are nice, though. Still, I don't see what the top 10 appeal of it is.

I'm not sure if I like the watery feel to his voice on A Song While Waiting. I like what he's going for, but like so many of these songs it feels a bit more like a sketch.

Blues for D didn't live up to the echoing haunt of the music.

5 more songs.

This is a nice background music set of songs. Everything is nice and sounds good and doesn't particularly reward close listening. At least the first half. It doesn't help that my two favorite songs (I think on the whole thing) are the first two.

No Contestar just ended and I couldn't even tell you what it sounded like

Big White Cloud has a fun open air slacker vibe to it. This is probably one of the better songs on the album

Following the Rain was the song I had already heard. It sounds exactly like what it is--a Whiskey outtake. Those were great sessions, and this is pretty good song, but it is definitely a step below what is on that album

Gray goes Black is a bit bland. I think it's a bit too similar to Dream Lullabye. Again, it might be a nice cooldown piece between some more intense moments (think Judas Touch), but this is such a mellow album that a song like this gets buried

Halcyon Daze: The verses are a bit too overwritten in places, but the chorus is really nice. It's not a standout track for me.

So again, none of these are bad songs, and it's a relaxing listen from start to finish, but there are only three songs that jump out at me as worthy of inclusion in the upper half of his cannon, and none of them are truly stellar songs.

you shouldn't even count it as a proper release, they were outtakes for a reason.

well look, I'm not condemning him for this. It is what it is. But I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. For instance, none of these songs were as good as the extant b-sides from Bubblegum or Scraps.
