Wonder how many other countries smell blood in the water. China and India making moves. Is the unipolar neoliberal hegemony starting to crack?
Boy I hope so!
Oh wow, Burt's take is that of a cynical college freshman - who would have guessed?

"Neoliberal hegemony" is when you don't invade Ukraine

It can't invade itself!

Newsweek is reporting that the Russian space agency is suggesting plummeting ISS onto a western country. That would be something.

To be clear, I don't think that's a thing that would happen and I understand the suggestion was that with a lack of funding thru sanctions, there's "no telling what the ISS could do," and I also do not regularly read Newsweek. It was just a thing I saw on Twitter that is laugh out loud laughable during an otherwise grim crisis.
Imagine. The precision it would take to de-orbit a space station onto a western country.

I saw a version of that headline but the quotes in the article suggested that it would be more an act of negligence than anything else--apparently Russia is partly responsible for keeping the ISS in space but the ISS's path doesn't cross over Russian territory, so the idea is that if they don't help keep it in orbit, the threat of it falling to earth would only affect the US and the other western powers.
Not sure if I even buy that (surely at some point it crosses over Russian territory?) but an interesting thing to say all the same.

The Ruskies are dependent on Germany for some of their rocket propellants (the stabilizing thrusters, I believe). SpaceX seems to be in a good position to step in if the Russians can't consistently continue cargo runs to ISS.

Can't imagine ISS could do that much damage.

Russia isn’t communist. And I don’t mean in the sense that the Soviet Union was a twisted communism, but not communist at all.
Putin is more or less a dictator though, killing, banning or hurting his political opponents. Runs a country filled with poor citizens, but has turned himself into a billionaire. Should be no one’s idol.

The party he is most closely connected with: United Russia; is a political party in Russia. United Russia is the largest party in Russia, and as of 2021 it holds 326 (or 72.44%) of the 450 seats in the State Duma, having constituted the majority in the chamber since 2007. The party was formed in December 2001 through a merger of the Unity and Fatherland – All Russia parties.
United Russia does not have a coherent ideology but has been described by various sources as centrist, centre-right,or right-wing. United Russia supports the policies of incumbent president Vladimir Putin, who, despite not currently being the official leader of United Russia, operates as its de facto leader. The party peaked in the 2007 Duma elections with 64.3% of the vote while in recent years it has seen its popularity decline. The party's ideology has been inconsistent, but it embraces specific politicians and officials with a variety of political views who support Putin.»

Saw a piece earlier about $5 million from Russia funnelled through the NRA to US politicians. Ted Cruz received the largest portion of it. So many in the GOP have been bought.
What Carlson and Fox are doing suddenly being pro Russia is anyone’s guess.
