I still think Dorsey is gonna do great things for this franchise. He's building the team the right way, with tremendous depth. Hopefully Fischer is the only major blemish on this tenure in KC.

I may be overreacting.
Yeah, this is only one game. The offense made a lot of mistakes. Alex looked overwhelmed. He doesn't usually turn the ball over and he threw two picks (though credit that second one to the Denver D disrupting his throwing motion). It was a game a lot of fans expected to lose. Most people had this one checked as a loss for the Chiefs.

Then Denver looked lackluster in their opener and everyone's trying to force this "Peyton Manning is DONE!" narrative down everyone's throats. He's still Peyton fucking Manning.

But at the end of the day, the Chiefs committed 5 turnovers and still managed to hold the lead for most of the game AND we only lost by one touchdown. At the very end of the game. Reid probably should have just called for a kneel down. But on the other hand, with 42 seconds left and a slim, final, outside shot at taking the game away, I still want the ball in the hands of my best player. It sucks that he fumbled. But I'm not as angry at Charles as I am at the way the game was called by Reid & Co.

So, yeah, let's not overreact. It's one game. A game we were in until the very end despite some terrible play calling and 5 goddamn turnovers.

Just like Manning fans didn't need to jump ship after the Baltimore game, I hope Chiefs fans aren't jumping ship now. We got a long season ahead of us.
I'm surprised that you say a lot of Chiefs fans had checked this as an L in the offseason. Most Broncos fans did the same thing. If that game had ended 24-17 KC I wouldn't have been surprised one bit. They'll be fine--I think both these defenses are capable of mauling the Chargers and Raiders in other divisional games.

I've been pretty supportive of Andy Reid throughout his career. That was just a fluky end to a game. But maybe Eagles fans will set me straight on whether that was fluky or par for the course.

For the first time in the Peyton Manning era I thought we had a real chance. Like I said before, I thought if we were ever gonna do it, it was gonna be last night. I wouldn't have been surprised if they pulled it off, but I wasn't gonna bet on it.

Chiefs fans by nature tend to be pessimistic. While I'm sure we all hoped we'd win and believed we had a better shot than any time in the last four years, most of us expected a loss.

And Andy Reid called a shit game all night!

In the first quarter, Chiefs have first and goal on the four yard line. They run Charles, Miller jumps off-sides to kill the play, flag is thrown, Chiefs get first and goal on the two yard line. No score, first quarter, first and goal on the two. Here’s the play sequence:

First down: Smith throws a backward pass for a three yard loss to Charles. He catches the ball, falls down. 2nd and goal from the 6: Smith throws an out route to Maclin BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE, incomplete. Third and goal: Another swing pass to Charles behind the line of scrimmage, who is stripped, and fumbles, Denver recovers. OK, that’s FIRST AND GOAL ON THE TWO, Reid throws the ball THREE TIMES IN A ROW, ALL BEHIND THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. Doesn’t even try to throw the ball into the end zone. Unforgivable play calling when you could pound Knile Davis four times, and if he can’t make two yards in four tries.... Also stings as it was a run by Knile Davis that got the Chiefs the eventual lead in the fourth quarter. We score there, and it’s a different tone for the night.

And then there's obviously the pass calling at the end of the 2nd that led to Smith's gimme INT and allowed the Broncos to tie.

Yeah, those passing plays were really bizarre. They had such a low chance of scoring on any of them.

I'm not really down with the Empire personification (the Pats are the Emperor and the Raiders are storm troopers) but this was still funny as hell, and it's a quote I use for sports frequently.

JJ Watt Quiets Rumors That He's Struggling with Being Single

Breaking news, everyone: The NFL’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year, and one of the most popular players in the country’s most popular league, is doing “alright.”

In a recent profile on NFL.com, Houston Texans superstar J.J. Watt tackled a bunch of topics, the juiciest of which was his dating life.

"People think that I've never dated before, or whatever," he said, per NFL.com’s Michael Silver. "But I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm just unsuccessful. My schedule's so crazy and life's so busy, it just hasn't worked."

Watt went on to discuss how he pictures life after his playing days are done and explained why he hasn’t met his ideal match—yet:

See, like, when I picture myself after football, it's down home, coaching high school football, just a relaxing, normal life. And the problem with that is, I still have this life now. So you can't have somebody that's just gonna be OK in that life, 'cause you have to deal with all this craziness right now. So it'd have to be somebody that's OK with the craziness now, but also is gonna be perfectly fine sitting on the couch watching a movie on a Friday night, having a bonfire on a Saturday night, not doing anything. And that's hard to find.

No. 99 took to social media to shut down the rumors he’s struggling in the dating game, though.
When Watt takes the field in Week 2 for the 0-1 Texans, his mind will probably be all football.

Because for now, his love life comes second

Well this late game is sure a snoozefest so far. This isn't easing my dislike of NFC East matchups getting into prime slots too often.

Both that and MIA/JAX look more interesting for sure. I checked back in and I'm not sure I've heard Eagles fans boo that loudly before, and that's saying something. Can't blame them, either.
