Re: Gearhead Thread
The headstock angle on LPs puts a lot of string pressure on the nut. Got a graphite nut and some locking tuners for mine. Works wonders.

I have an Ibanez SF470 that I got in 1992. It's a fucking machine; no whammy, just a stop bar tail. It's the main reason I never had to bother getting a strat.Strat wrote:I mean, least attractive for most awesome. You'll never catch me with an Ibanez and shit.

Re: Gearhead Thread
my first guitar was a knockoff strat. i lost all taste for them after that - and not because that guitar was junky, just that it was the wrong guitar for me. if i was ever going to consider something to fill that niche again though it would probably be a PRS SE custom 24 or maybe a Jackson Dinky. something with humbuckers and a hard tail because i don't want to stray too far from my comfort zone. i would allow coil splittingSelf wrote:I have an Ibanez SF470 that I got in 1992. The other guitarist in my band just custom ordered a Kiesel Aries 6. Should end up looking similar to this but with a Floyd Rose. I might change my tune on strat style guitars after i get some face time with this thing.

One of the first bands i played in back freshman year of college - the other guitar player had a Jackson with a girl in a bikini on a beach painted on it.

Papa Wease got a PRS about 3 months ago. He hasn't picked up another guitar since.

Re: Gearhead Thread
Huh, don't know much about Kiesel. My Ibanez is nice to have for when I'm feeling something different. And it's been with me for so long, I wouldn't dare get rid of it. Pups are HsH with a 5-way switch. Plenty of tones to go around and it does clean exceptionally well. The bridge pup does rock, metal just fine, the neck gives off a Tom Morello vibe. Fun to play around with, but not really my thing. The single coil tones are fun too, but also not really my thing. As far as looks, I don't care. Nobody's gonna be taking pictures of me in my basement with a pointy headstock guitar and making fun. I still wouldn't care, I used to be a pointy headstock guitar guy.mf wrote:my first guitar was a knockoff strat. i lost all taste for them after that - and not because that guitar was junky, just that it was the wrong guitar for me. if i was ever going to consider something to fill that niche again though it would probably be a PRS SE custom 24 or maybe a Jackson Dinky. something with humbuckers and a hard tail because i don't want to stray too far from my comfort zone. i would allow coil splittingSelf wrote:I have an Ibanez SF470 that I got in 1992. I have a few other guitars, but I stick mostly to my 03 LP Standard. I love it; it's me. The separate volume/tone controls allow for a wider array of options and tones than LPs are given credit for, I think. The fit and finish is also a work of art.

It's a 2003 Bluesbreaker reissue, rated at 30W but seriously loud when pushed.

Re: Gearhead Thread
you had me all excited...but unfortunately it seems to be mostly for synths, turntables and hifi/audio equipment...not really musical instruments/amps/fx like i was expecting.

Re: Gearhead Thread
Just scored this for a steal. I used to have one way back when. The pre is solid state, so it ain't that great until you push it, but when you do it sounds really fuckin good.

I've always wanted to try out one of those old Peaveys with the built-in phaser.

Re: Gearhead Thread
The phaser is actually really good. The range knob has pull switch that stops the phase, and then you can dial in more tones with the depth control. Came with the original footswitch, too. Channel select, combine, reverb, and phase controls. I feel like not going to work tomorrow.

Papa Wease is ordering a pedal that mimics a Leslie rotating speaker cabinet. Can't wait to plug that thing in.
Did you get that pedal and how is it?

I've never really been a pedal guy; I have an old DOD delay and my trusty cry baby. Added a Fulltone OCD in front, today. Impressive. I like it a lot.
