Im sure PJ will make a record ill like...i feel lucky enough i dont have that feeling of " this is the last time ill expect a record from them".

Realistically, how much longer can they go though? Its getting to be put up or shut up territory for these guys. There was a time when I think we all thought they could age into their 50's putting out mature music... but how long can these guys go jamming on the Supersonics and Fixers? They may only have a few albums left and part of me thinks this one could be it. I'm sure they feel pressure, and that makes me a little more understanding of the wait for what they plan to offer up this time.

They dont have to feel that pressure..in that way i hope they go to the Neil Young & Crazy Horse route..just make music and tour because you like that.

I feel these long term gaps between records have something to do with that.

so you were not an S/t fan?

I would agree but they don't seem to really like either....at least not enough to do with any frequency. They play festivals and the same handful of US cities and have put out 2 records in 10 years. I wouldn't call either album a smash hit with the fanbase either....

They should feel pressure.

Pearl Jam needs to make a decision at this point. Be the like the stones or be like the bands they dont shut up about

Haven't they largely moved away from a Neil Young approach in recent years? By that I mean constantly moving forward with new material, not trading on past glories, taking some amount of pleasure in challenging people's expectations of who they are as artists, etc.

I think a lot of Backspacer critics, myself included, wouldn't care half as much if the record could be seen (as with some of Neil's releases) as a footnote in a larger creative journey and not the defining artistic statement of the what the band was between 2009-2012.

It was okay. Its aged better than what I thought it would and there are some songs I like there. Its still second from the bottom though. In general, I would say a large percentage of fans have the last 3 records at the bottom of their rankings. If they don't put out a record that the fanbase can be more unversally accepting of than the last 3 this time, I would say it is either time to fully embrace the nostalgia act thing or gracefully bow out. Just my opinion.

I think this is why the only pressure they will feel is internal pressure to deliver. They can throw together a 15-date tour whenever they want in the major U.S. markets and make some pretty great cash, not to mention the huge pay days from festival gigs. They can sustain themselves financially with very little or even no work, and I think they have enough of a hardcore fanbase that will continue to see them even if the quality of their work declines.

The fact that Brad has put out 3 albums and Ament has put out like a million since backspacer....

If you listen to Jeff recently, I think he feels that urgency for whatever reason. To take advantage of the time he has left and make the most of it. I don't know if the rest of the band is there. I have long had a suspicion that Stone doesn't really care that much.....Matt is busy fucking his old girlfriend, ect.

Brad released only one record of new material...Best Friends? was recorded in 2003.

Jeff has been prolific but a lot of material from his solo records are old material than he even tested with PJ, so its fair to say they have release 2 records in 10 years, but im guessing there is a lot of music they have been doing as a band too.

Not really. They've done 2 records since Riot Act. That was a decade ago.

Unless you count Lost Dogs, I guess.
