"Gave It a Name" is an awesome song, the fact that Bruce thought it should have been omitted from "Human Touch" in favor of most of the crap he put on there just shows how artistically oblivious he was at that time.

Re: Chasing Some Mirage: The Springsteen Tourney - Scott
"Human Touch" is almost undoubtedly his worst album. Most fans in my experience have one or two songs on the album that they like, but they're rarely consistent and half the time they're qualified by preferences for live versions that only vaguely resemble the originals. "Lucky Town" is better but still pretty far down Bruce's totem pole -- pretty easily second worst until "High Hopes" came around, and it might still be second worst only less easily. However, there are mysteriously a handful of really solid songs from these sessions on CD4 of the "Tracks" set. Truly a baffling couple of releases.

Working on a Dream is pretty terrible too other than the Wrestler.Kevin Davis wrote:"Human Touch" is almost undoubtedly his worst album. I think "Working on a Dream" is much better than it gets credit for being, certainly better to my ears than those three albums, but I have some sentimental fondness for it too that may be coloring my opinion. If you take "Outlaw Pete" and "Queen of the Supermarket" off of it I think it's a pretty damn listenable album from front to back.

Listenable, but wholly forgetable.Kevin Davis wrote:I think "Working on a Dream" is much better than it gets credit for being, certainly better to my ears than those three albums, but I have some sentimental fondness for it too that may be coloring my opinion. I'll go with Long Walk Home for my third pick. Another song with a just fantastic final verse. Magic is such a great album.

Here's my LAL take on WOAD, for those who have absolutely nothing better to do than to fill the time waiting between draft picks with nonsense.

Re: Chasing Some Mirage: The Springsteen Tourney - Bugs
I've been contemplating taking that since the second round but never pulled the trigger. Thought I could get away with no one taking it.
Mighty Max and his fucking drumroll and Bruce moaning with desperation and the incredible lyrics... fuck!
Oh, nothing is forgotten or forgiven
When it's your last time around
And I got stuff running 'round my head
That I just can't live doooooooooown
