Yeah, it's good. My boss had it once and made it sound like a complete reinvention of the sandwich. He's an idiot.

He said, "Guys, I went to this place. This sandwich place. On 47th. Oh my god. First of all... they give you like, a whole baguette, and then they just pile all this fucking stuff on there. Whatever you want! Just all this shit and it's all fresh. Man!"

We said,... "Oh... so, like a sandwich a Subway?"

"No, man. They give you a baguette!"

"Oh... so like a fancy subway?"

I would blindly buy an album that had your avatar for the cover art, Higgs. No text on the front or spine. Just that face.

Celebration Rock podcast did an episode about the "Five Albums Test," which is sort of a weird and arbitrary way of gauging greatness. The idea is to be a great band, they must have a strung together 5 good to great albums in a row. Again, it's arbitrary and unnecessarily exclusive because bands like Nirvana don't even apply... but it is a fun and kinda challenging way to structure a conversation.

Using that "test" would Pearl Jam be a great band? The Rolling Stones? The Beatles? Are there albums that I like but that just aren't great?

I can't wait to finish listening to the podcast discussion and then try to apply that to the bands I listen to most.

interesting. i think you bring up a fair question: what is the definition of "great"? critically acclaimed? personal preference?

for instance, i think No Code is a great album, but i doubt the majority of music fans do.

Yeah, seems like a pretty flimsy measure. I would deem the run of Vitalogy-Riot Act to be great, but that's like my opinion man.

Totally. It's all subjective, obviously.

The host and Rob Sheffield have a conversation about Beatles For Sale. Sheffield insists its a great album that is underrated by fans. The host mostly disagrees and thinks that fans have elevated it because it's the most universally underrated Beatles album.

It's a super flimsy measure, for sure. That's why it's more interesting to me as a game or a hypothetical than any sort of real attempt at measurement.
