Yea a lot of the press I've seen has been pretty honest about calling this what it is. An opportunity for trump to feel like he won something even though nothing will probably happen. They've called it as grandstanding and also point out that millions are still losing health care.

With or without this bill, the important part of the ACA, the individual market is in a death spiral. Something has to be done at some point for that.
Anyone have a breakdown of individual health insurance vs. company-provided health insurance?

Funny you should ask, my wife made a comparison spreadsheet last night (as it relates to our own finances). Our question was whether it might be cheaper for me to set up insurance through my company (I'm the only FT employee); to buy on the open market; or for her to keep the plan we have through her job.
Keeping the plan through her job won by a significant amount. It's just about the buying power of a larger organization, you know?

Not bad (the piece, I mean):
Trump Isn’t a Pragmatist. He Doesn’t Understand Ideology.
It is widely known that Trump — whose political profile over the decades has vacillated from liberal to conservative to moderate to populist, and supported and opposed abortion rights, higher taxes on the rich, and universal health care — does not care very much about political ideas. This explanation is true, but incomplete. The president also does not know very much about political ideas. And it is not merely the details of policy that he lacks. Trump has no context for processing ideas. He does not understand which kinds of ideas imply support for which kinds of policies, nor why political figures tend to believe what they do, nor why they agree or disagree with one another. He is capable of forming strongly held beliefs about people in politics, but he does so in entirely personal terms. Trump’s flamboyant, weird ignorance reveals a distinct pattern. He is not so much nonideological as sub-ideological.

Which ends up being the strongest economic argument for Single Payer. Health Insurance these days is not insurance, we're paying for buying into a plan in large groups. We might as well pay for it as one huge group instead of a bunch of small factions, and then use the governmental power to drive down the cost. (though it probably won't since the people in charge of that insurance/drug lobby now have all the economic and political power already)

Replying to this in the health care thread.

Blumenthal and Yates spelling out that Flynn is looking at five years in prison for lying to the FBI, plus more for add'l actions. This is getting good!

Remember when Flynn was looking for a deal a few weeks back? His culpability has been clearly spelled out. Now they're talking about Pence potentially being called as a witness in a legal action against Flynn (though Yates suggests it's unlikely). This is getting so close to Trump...I can't see how this doesn't turn into an impeachment within the next several months.

I think this can only go one of two ways:
1. Charges are brought against Flynn; witnesses are called who eventually create a narrative in which Trump stood to gain from a favorable relationship with Russia, and kept Flynn on because of this gain despite the advice of expert minds --> Impeachment
2. Charges are brought against Flynn, but there's no smoking gun testimony that implicates Trump. What then?

they just need to get trump under oath somehow. that guy will perjure himself, no doubt. they could be talking sports and he would perjure himself. he is scientifically incapable of not knowingly telling untruths. get him to open his mouth for more than 35 seconds and it is a guarantee

Never heard of it, but a quick scan of their website makes me think it's primarily an effort for southern states to band together and enact constitutional changes that fit their worldview (anti-LGBT laws, etc).

Few people are more deprived of essential human liberties than white Americans. I wish them luck.
