Ryan Sutter is selling his 12,000 SF mansion located in rural Wisconsin. Maybe this means he took a paycut from the wild so we can beef up our roster a tad.

Doubtful.

I don't anticipate the on-ice product to improve any time soon unless Melnyk sells, either.

The off-ice stuff with Lee and Karlsson/Hoffman is nuts. The best course of action would likely be to trade Hoffman for futures and give Karlsson a big, long-term deal. I kind of expect both to be traded, though.

Hoffman to San Jose for a cap dump, then San Jose flips Hoffman to Florida for a 2nd, 4th, and 5th.

Ottawa literally took on negative value to get rid of Hoffman instead of just trading him for draft picks like San Jose did just minutes later.

What a disaster of an organization.

I think the trade speaks to the lack of depth in the Ottawa organization. Ottawa felt with the depth they have that they needed someone who could play immediately. Florida way overpaid for the guy but I believe they are desperate to make it back t the playoffs.

I think Ottawa is desperate too. Assuming they make their pick this year and give Colorado next year's, the worst thing they can do is go out of their way to make sure the pick isn't too high. That's what the Hoffman trade (targetting Boedker rather than futures) would have me worried about if I were a Sens fan.

They don't want to give up this year's pick and admit that they expect to be worse next year, so instead they're going to try to be good this year instead of just rebuilding like they so obviously need to do.

I'm not a trade analyst but what happened with Hoffman is just depressing. has to be the lowest moment I have experienced as a fan. the cool thing is that the panthers are my unofficial second team, so I will still get to follow Hoffman.

The whole situation sucked for the Sens, and my initial reaction to the trade was "Man, Hoffman's girlfriend really torpedoed the Sens chances of jump-starting a rebuild by trading him," but the return really wasn't that surprising, all things considered. It only looked worse in light of the subsequent trade to Florida. Maybe Boedker can increase his value enough to recoup the second rounder they probably should have gotten in the first place, though. He's a solid asset, just a little overpaid.

The future of the organization hinges on what they do with Karlsson, though, so they can still turn things around by either trading him for a nice haul or signing him long term.
