For sure. They were playing Free covers in their earliest practices, FFS. They've always held the flag for classic rock. Blues-based, pentatonic guitar solos in the era of "grunge"? The Pumpkins were probably the only other band, at the time, who still thought solos were cool.
I think AIC had some? but yeah, wow! Free covers?? I didn't know that, Free are my dad's second favourite band after REM
Yep. Jeff was talking a bunch about Free/Bad Company being an influence on the bass work for Jeremy, specifically, in that CBS college basketball interview from last week.
Said he was listening to them a ton in those days.
oh damn that's right I remember

I honestly believe that the worst PJ are the spritzy punk PJ, followed by the 'Eddie Vedder from Into the wild invades PJ' PJ.

There are a few bright spots here and there, but overall, they're below average at it.

That's why I get sad when I see them going at it again and again.

Ms. Harmless has this right. There’s a lot going on with this song. It’s not the typical spritzy punk.

I think my expectations have been so low that it’s hard for me to be truly objective with these new songs. After some time with them I’d say they both hover around a 3 outta 5. Average modern era PJ songs. That said, I like Running more than DM which will likely be a skip for me on the new album. I’m still hoping DM has 3-4 songs that I want to listen to a year from now, anything more would be gravy and anything less would be Lightning Bolt redux.

For all of the back and forth, this is all I really want. three or four per release that I can absolutely love...they've not let me down yet
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

I’m on lighting for a middle school production of The Lion king this weekend. One more show tonight. I can easily say that DM and Running are better than what I’ve been subjected to this weekend

;) Good thing I don't know where you are, my wife would likely want to go.
She'll see the Lion King and hear those songs performed anywhere and by anyone.

Here's to a good performance!

it sounds to me like you're so tired of the style that you're unable to hear the relative merits or weaknesses of each song example; I think Supersonic is near unlistenable, I don't love Big Wave, but I like Never Destination and Running very much and Olé more than many here; I don't think Running is "spritzy", it's harsher than that

Thank you for saying that, but, ya know, she did marry me, so, your judgement may be way off there ;)
My wife is a freaking superhero, though..there's little doubt about that

Don’t get me wrong, the songs in Lion king are great. And my wife is directing this particular production. But again, exhibit A: middle schoolers singing them 4 times in two days plus tech week all last week!

Ruddo I bet the production values are better than whatever Stone alluded to in that interview.

Are you insisting everyone refer to you as Keely btw?
