Magic in the Moonlight. Fucking terrible. It's amazing that someone who made a movie as tightly written and constructed as Hannah and Her Sisters could make something so sloppy and repetitive. Not to mention totally fucking miserable; believers and non-believers alike should come away with something to be pissed off about!

I'm not saying it's better than Blue Jasmine. But I'm not certain that it's worse. The performances in Jasmine are certainly better. But other than that... I was pretty *shoulder shrug* about both of them. Moonlight made me laugh more than Jasmine made me feel. So there's that, I guess.

Boyhood was solid, it wasn't terrible.

Blue is the Warmest Color was kind of a amazing.

Also, not sure how people couldn't like Locke...

And if there is an abstract film worth interpreting it's Under the Skin. A little slow at first but it all comes together.

We may do an Under the Skin episode in the future, too. I hate cold, cynical, mean-spirited movies like that. My dislike has nothing to do with its "abstract" style. I think it's vacuous.

I'll admit that the performances in Magic in the Moonlight were a little embarassing, that the characters were a little obvious, and the moral was pretty simple (although perfectly true) but I liked it. I definitely thought it was funny.

Yeah, that's exactly where I'm at with it.

Even being a hardcore atheist who agrees with message of the film, I found Firth’s character to be an insufferable SOB, and not in any kind of fun or entertaining way – I just wanted him to shut the fuck up and stop giving atheists a bad name. It just furthers the misguided, misinformed idea that atheists are condescending, miserable assholes who think life is worthless and terrible. Even though the movie says spiritualism is false, it still equates spiritualism with mystery and wonder and happiness, which is nonsense. Like I said, there’s something to piss off believers and non-believers alike.

I also found out a total bore to sit through. Like I said, it’s insanely repetitive. Did you notice how many times they talked about Sophie before meeting her? It’s like three or four scenes that just repeat each other and add nothing; I got it the first time! That’s just terrible writing, and it makes it boring to watch because they just keep re-feeding me the same plot information I was already given.

Oh, and Woody's creepy wish fulfillment didn't help either.

Firth (Woody's stand-in) ending up with an attractive woman who's like half his age.

Woody Allen is interesting to me in that he's so highly lauded yet only about 10% of his movies are any good. I guess that's what happens when you make a bazillion movies.

Agreed. I like Woody Allen but only own a few of his movies.
