The girlfriend ran the Pittsburgh 5k yesterday and finished in 35:11
She followed that up with the full marathon today and finished in 6:53
Not too bad considering the farthest she has ran this year was an 18 miler and a 12 miler. Also ran 2 5ks.
To say she relaxed on training might be and understatement but she may be a little bullheaded and has determination out the wazzo. She hit the wall at 18 and I back tracked the course to the 22 mile or so and walked with her to help her spirits.
Everyone we passed along the way were yelling encouragement and a few came over and gave her a big hug. Was amazing to see total strangers (both runners and bystanders) yelling encouragement to total strangers

The fast finishers get the glory but I am way more appreciative of the people who grind it out and complete, what is for them a big accomplishment. It takes more guts to keep going at the six hour mark than to be done before four hours are up.

Well I forgot to put my pair of Brooks on the closet shoe rack where they belong last night and woke up to my puppy making a snack out of them. Looks like I won’t be running for a few days while I wait for some new ones. :/

300 miles on my $22 shoes now.
There's nothing wrong with them and they'd probably last past 500 miles, but I'm gonna order some new ones and switch them out after 400.

I jogged/ran a good 3.5 miles with a lot of hills yester evening. Had to walk some, but I pushed myself really hard. Having some trouble catching my breath cause of allergies and being out of shape. I'm looking forward to doing this at least 2-3 times a week and getting into tip top shape this summer.

I asked about this before but everybody ignored me. What/where is it and how do I join?
Goddamn I just realized I probably should buy new running shoes if I'm gonna commit to this. I got injured last year, probably cause of my old shoes. They're at least 3 years old and I've run quite a bit on them.
I run on pavement and rock roads. Do they have to be running shoes? I bought a new pair of Skechers to wear to work recently. Do you think I could run in these?

Those look good. Would you recommend these for pavement and rock roads?

Following a bunch of people in the Red Mosquito Running Club is really aspirational for me. I see the distances being run, paces being set and hills climbed and that's my aim. To be able to go out and enjoy 11-12km trail runs on the weekend. During the week I am happy with my twice a week runs 2x7.5km but you've given me a goal for weekends.

Impulsed-registered for a couple of races this week: a local trail 10K in June and Afton Trail 25K (near twin cities) in July. Time to start hitting the trails again.

You should post a pic of your watch when you do those 13 milers.
