Sometimes it's just the main riff, but mostly is Ed.

Maybe young Ed was a good punk singer (I remember Speed Wash from New year's eve 1991, for example), even great, but old Ed is a bad bad punk singer. Way too many words, too fast and too similar every single time.

And he can't sing this songs live, but that's a whole other thing.
so with the caveat that spritzy punker is a term that means something different to everyone and is generally shorthand for ‘fast song i don’t like’ Eddie has some pretty great performances in this vein. WWS, Comatose, and Mind Your Manners Come to mind. Most of SBWM as well. All 5 star, tremendous songs that he generally just kills
WWS is a rock song, I don't put it in the same category. I'd say the first spritzy punk song they put on a record was Whipping. Spin the black circle is the pinnacle of PJ doing punk.

And none of the songs you name are 5 star songs, not even close, with or without Ed.

I
Agreed. There is a conflation of spritzy with punk. Those two are not the same, but naturally in PJ world they tend to overlap.

Whipping is absolutely fantastic though
Yes it is.

But it's not at my top of the band.

In fact, I did a list of their whole catalog according to my taste when the pandemic hit, I'm gonna take a look and see where I put it.

I'll share the list with you if you are curious.

I’m going to go see if my pee sounds like Matt’s hi-hat. I might discover I have chlamydia.

That’ll vary from poster to poster, but that is a fine courtesy people should add in when they post monster lists like that

I am mostly on board with his top and bottom 20. Footsteps and I got Shit are too high, and Get Right and Speed of Sound are too low. Otherwise that looks reasonable, if not exactly mine
