There's also a commentary version of the album: Pearl Jam – Lightning Bolt
(Commentary Version) http://open.spotify.com/album/4CnmDjNCJ4nGUETPwhaK5n
If someone can rip that, that'd be great

I was never a fan until I watched a documentary about Darkness on the Edge of Town. I love that album. I bought a few albums but it's the only one I truly love. If you haven't heard it I'd recommend it.darthvedder81 wrote:Never been a fan. I find him to be a weak songwriter, guitar player and especially singer.@SkitchP wrote:I wish I liked Bruce Springsteen

I'm tempted to attempt a lengthy review of this record, but I think I want to wait until tomorrow when I have the proper CD and liner notes in my hand.
Needless to say, this album is strong.

Yes indeed. Of course I can't hope to match up to your expert analysis but I'll give it a bash anyway.stip wrote:There are some lyrical surprises. My girlfriend, who is not really a PJ fan at all but has accompanied me to 4 shows since 2010, listened to LB on the train the other day and because she's greatest she even wrote down a mini review because she knew I'd love to read her thoughtsstip wrote:Other peoples opinions are what we are all hear to readBootsToAsses wrote:Yes indeed. If you want a quick taster of her thoughts, this is what she had to say about some of the songs:
Sirens - "One for swaying in the crowd. I can imagine Eddie rolling around in the sand on an empty beach for the music video."
Sleeping By Myself - "Is Ed going to twang this out country style on stage by himself with a ukulele? It's a bit too borderline country for my taste".
Yellow Moon - "Wet."
Future Days - "Doubly wet."

90% is quite the achievement. Despite them sounding as different as humanly possible, at least she knows their name. My girl doesn't like REM at all. She kinda likes Bruce though. Nothing sexier than going to a gig and seeing her singing along to songs I like.stip wrote:I wish my wife cared about music. Never thought of it like that. Guess it kind of is in the same vein as Around the bend. Not just the pianos either.
BOB played piano on ATB too, right? I wonder if this one will have a renaissance down the line?

There are a lot of references to previous lyrics and general references on this record.
In Swallowed whole he mentions 'come what may'. Is he referring to that old spiritual tune of the same name? I wonder

Re: Lightning Bolt: The Official Album Thread
This album continues the "second half not as good as the first half" pattern of Pearl Jam albums. I'd argue VS' and Binaural's good songs are fairly evenly distributed, but the rest match this. They like to open strong, but often lack the substance to back it up.
No Code is my favourite album of all time though, and it suffers from this syndrome as well.

Yeah, I think there's a lot of playing around with pseudo-religious hymnal ideas and lyrics across the album.dimejinky99 wrote:There are a lot of references to previous lyrics and general references on this record.
