So what differences can I expect to see? Anything new for my existing games, or only on future titles? And does it even matter if I'm playing at 720?Monkey_Driven wrote:HDR support coming to all PS4's next week. Excellent.

It will only be noticeable on an HDR capable TV. Sorry.tragabigzanda wrote:So what differences can I expect to see? Anything new for my existing games, or only on future titles? And does it even matter if I'm playing at 720?Monkey_Driven wrote:HDR support coming to all PS4's next week. Excellent.

It's all good. I'm still blown away by videogaming in 2016.Monkey_Driven wrote:It will only be noticeable on an HDR capable TV. Sorry.tragabigzanda wrote:So what differences can I expect to see? So basically, it's not a worthwhile upgrade for 95% of gamers out there (how many people even own a 4K tv?). Good to know i can stop stressing about buying this stupid thing.A Pro owner who merely has a current-standard 1080p TV may also see marginal improvements to games that are programmed to use the more powerful console’s power for non-4K/HDR effects. According to developers working on games for the Pro, these gamers may see the game they’re playing running at a more stable framerate or with some improved graphical details

I look at it this way if you are planning to replace your current PS4 or buy a new one all together.mf wrote:tragabigzanda wrote:Good exploration of what the PS4 Pro means for gamers;

Do you have a 4k TV with HDR support? Buy a PS4 Pro
Do you want the best Playstation VR experience? Buy a PS4 Pro
Do you have a 720p/1080p TV and just want the experience current owners have had for three years? Buy the regular PS4 and save $50 off the current price.
I don't think it is a game changer by any means, nor did Sony really say it was. It's kind of like the difference between an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 6s. I know Scorpio is coming out next year and will be super powerful, but something tells me the new Playstation (with full backwards compatibility with PS4) will come out in 2018. This is just an option for the hardcore fans who want the best possible PS4 experience.

I badly want to upgrade my TV but the tech is in a very frustrating transitional state right now. I'll probably wind up waiting a few years for QLED. Ugh.

I bit the bullet earlier this year and bought one that supported 4k and both formats of HDR. Hopefully, I'm good for awhile.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I badly want to upgrade my TV but the tech is in a very frustrating transitional state right now. Why do people flip shit about these upgrades when what we have is already amazing? Just wait a little bit. Humanity is so dumb sometimes.

The cell phone industry seems to be taking advantage of this phenomenon.Orpheus wrote:Why do people flip shit about these upgrades when what we have is already amazing? Just wait a little bit. Humanity is so dumb sometimes.

No one is saying what we have isn't amazing. I just love TV tech and am anxious to get a curved display with no backlighting. I still love my current set-up, but it's not "dumb" to be excited for the new tech if it's actually better.Orpheus wrote:Why do people flip shit about these upgrades when what we have is already amazing? Yeah, HDR and 4k really do make images and video look more realistic. It's just hard to find content that was filmed that way. I'm all for a system that can display those resolutions.LoathedVermin72 wrote:No one is saying what we have isn't amazing. I personally don't care, but Overwatch is free to play on PS4 this weekend.

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
So you can basically start your MyPlayer mode ahead of the game's release, right? Smart move on their part. I'll keep getting my butt kicked in '16, though.
