In the 70's the Presbyterians and many other groups signed on to banning handguns. I think the Brady Campaign grew out of a different org that had banning handguns as part of their name.

Based on the history, its a bit of motte and bailey. "Commonsense gun control" ends up meaning different things to different people.

Anyhoo, re: the Miami shooting, I love the people bringing up constitutional carry suggesting it will somehow make things worse. What are the chances that any of the three shooters have clean criminal histories?

I agree with verb partially. Some of this stuff, you’ll never be able to stop from happening.

But I don’t need to be in a shopping mall parking lot with a bunch of untrained fucks carrying guns who decide to start firing if they think someone cut them off for the space they were eyeing.

If we're only thinking about guns when we talk about gangs, then we're talking about the wrong thing. If people need incentive beyond "not going to jail" or "not getting killed" to make lawful/productive decisions then we need to address what's misaligned their beliefs/behaviors.

Along with this, I don't think it would hurt to have fewer guns in the country and to make it harder to get guns in general.

Gun stuff has happened at a shopping mall near me. It was delinquents, not MAGA man with CC though.

I'd love to see studies on how constitutional carry has affected gun violence or self defensive use, but in the (20?) states where its the law, it doesn't seem to change anything. Some of these states have had it for more than a decade, so there should be data out there to dig into.

Idiots that are going to irresponsibly use guns aren't waiting for the government's permission to do so in public.
