then how do you explain the previous political songs very similar to mind your manners written while democrats were in the white house? (bracketing just how moronic the idea is that once your party is in office you are deliriously happy and somehow no longer able to look critically at the world or be bothered by it)

also, I wouldn't be shocked to find out that EV isn't a registered democrat. I'd actually be a bit surprised if he was.

I just hope there was enough time to write and record Zimmerman for this album.

They had other targets in their younger days. Ticketmaster, their own fame, ect. ect.
So dte was a response to ticketmaster? Grievance and insignificance were responses to their own fame? Backspacer was full of political commentary?
Should I have listed them all for you stip?
If I understand you, you were saying that pearl jam has not written songs that were broad based social commentary outside of the context of the bush administration or their own personal issues. I also don't understand how backspacer is a political record other than the noticeable absence of political commentary after the previous two records. And even during the Riot Act/ST years many of EV's political/social songs were about things beyond Bush.
Without a singular target like Bush for someone as uneducated as Eddie to target with his 'political and social commentary' we end up with a Backspacer. I don't really expect anything different this time around.
what precisely did I miss?
I'm not saying Backspacer is a political record, quite the opposite. And with Eddie still rocking around Barack, Lightning Bolt isn't going to be one either if I had to guess. Without the boogeyman in the White House, we are going to get another album about riding high amongst waves. The 'outrage' in the MYM video seems contrived to me...
additionally, something being contrived doesn't take away a meaning or a message. It just means that this meaning or message is inauthentic.

Eddie didn't graduate high school. He is a moron.

Pearl Jam Inc. has to keep rolling. There a lot of livelihoods that depend on the band churning out a record and touring. The warehouse looks like it also involves some full time employees based on that recent video. Its all fine. But this notion that the band is laboring over their records and crafting some sort of elaborate message for us to dissect is pretty far fetched. By their own admission, they dread having to "gear up" the machine.

Not literally of course, but I don't think he is a critical thinker when it comes to things like this.

What makes MYM more contrived than any of thier previous political aimed songs? I can understand why you wouldn't like it as much of those other songs, but I don't know why its inherently fake and forced.

Could they have made any political song at this point in their career that you wouldn't have found contrived?

Or Are you saying Eddie should have gone all the way lyrically and tore Obama a new one? And that would have been fine.

Leaving aside the insinuation that people who didn't finish high school are morons, are you saying that all political songs other than Bush leaguer are moronic?

we've moved from pearl jam can't write good political songs unless they are mad at bush to pearl jam can't write smart things because eddie didn't graduate high school (ignoring all the similar political songs they wrote in non bush years and the smart songs they've written period). I suspect at some point we will make a stop at scenic 'pearl jam can't write a good song because they are rich and have families' before we finally stop at the pretty unobjectionable 'look I just don't like the song and/or video'

At least we can all agree that politics provides people with more ways to say something sucks.
