Now this is interesting!
I had no idea he'd directed a movie. Color me fucking excited!

had the opposite effect for me, when i finished i liked it enough and with time i was mesmerized with Cooper´s framing, intentions, camera movements, movements from within the frame, use of black and white and color, use of different ratios..
his appearance in the Talk Easy podcast is really good, were he discuss most of his choices.
Ill be making a rewatch soon.

I liked it. The minor “twist” was pretty predictable but great acting

Kano is underrated. I would never have guessed he was a Bri'ish rapper in his past life.

Zero Fucks Given.
Liked it a lot. Very cool photography and camera work. Great performance by the legendary Adèle Exarchopoulos.

With it being so cold yesterday I stayed in and finally watched All Quiet on the Western Front. Well made and lots of battle sequences but to be honest it really didn’t draw me in like I had hoped.

I love the work of Yorgos Lanthimos. I think Dogtooth and The Favorite are incredible movies. I'm especially a fan of how The Favorite moves, the grace and fluidity with which it transitions from scene to scene and idea to idea, threading the needle so gently and skillfully. I was very excited for Poor Things as I posted here several times. But God, I fucking hated it. Just unbearable, uninteresting, obvious in all the worst ways, filled with shockingly ugly digital landscapes that I swear to God feel AI generated (and I know that "this seems AI generated" has become the go-to insult for stuff you dislike, but I mean it in a real sense here; many of the images here have that empty, plasticky, from-nowhere-and-everywhere-at-once sheen of AI art, particularly the exterior shots of the cruise ship). Condescending and banal, with some of the most exhausting dialogue I have ever heard.
Argo said it "won him over by the end" but I think it just gets worse and worse and worse. Most annoyingly, though, there are good things about it. Emma Stone, obviously. The hybrid creatures in Godfrey's home. The indoor sets were stunning (though many of the outdoor sets were Marvel-level bad, especially Lisbon). A few very beautiful shots when not playing around with fish eye lenses. I kind of wish it was all bad so it was easier to throw away.
And it felt so long. Just kept going and going. Mind you, I happily sat through Killers of the Flower Moon twice and that movie is a whole hour longer than this one. But I could not wait for this to end.
Ruffalo was fucking awful, just awful

Ouch. Glad Yorgos Lanthimos isn't a poster on RM.
