On DM, I am agreeing with stip here. Glad you teased that out because I didn’t think of some of those unconscious elements that I think make the song.

good post Stip, and now I'm listening to how the "for someone else's mistake" changes

I do wish one of them was just spoken

it could have started lower/slower to have more of a juxtaposition between the three. would have been interesting to hear

You guys are gonna be absolutely sick of this song by the time the album comes out and will proclaim it to suck and be the lamest track on the album.

Comatose is better than Dark Matter. Comatose is a fucking monster. Dark Matter is the song you write 20 years after Comatose and come to grips with the fact that in so many ways things have gotten worse.

I don't really get sick of songs I like; in the case of (good) PJ they just slot in and become familiar parts of the catalogue

I'll get sick of a song if every time I listen I'm wondering why they had to write it like that, and I was at first with Dark Matter (I wish they allowed the intro and outro to breathe longer) but I'm over it

I wish Eddie whispered the last one sadly then you hear some quiet sobbing in the background after the song ends

Dark Matter may or may not be better than Sleeping By Myself. Today I choose to not decide.

Several people say that Dark Matter is a great example of the band playing so well and energetically together but hampered by shitty production/mixing. I feel that way about comatose. There’s so much to like about that song, but the grating vocals and scratchy edges of the guitar sounds (on the album as a whole too) are so distracting and annoying to me.

Worst part of the song is Ed's delivery. Hopefully better on the rest of the album.

tough call. Grievance is a better song than Dark Matter but hearing them in close proximity (car speakers, not headphones) Dark Matter has so much life. grievance feels like I am listening to it through a mattress

Binaural and S/T have the opposite challenges for me. binaural has incredible dense atmosphere that enhances its mood pieces but buries the fast numbers. S/T has an abrasive sand paper feel that elevates its fast songs but harms the slower mood pieces

We need a new song...and quick.
DM is an alright tune. Nothing legendary
Although it seems to be getting some good airplay ( does terrestrial radio even matter nowadays?)

Fact is, the song was a nice way to wet the tongue
However, the wine is a bit weak and the flavor just vanishes.

Time for the band to throw the left hook
Give us another track so we can get a better read on this album
Maybe get a babysitter and head out to one of those talk shows and perform a live version of Dark Matter

Something...anything
just get on with it already
