Always had a soft spot for this song, from the moment I heard it. Admired how perverse they were with first singles.
Also, first studio introduction to one Mr. Jack Irons. He makes his presence known immediately.

they played this song 2nd night of Philly this year.
i was dancing like I liked the song *which i do.
some guy jumped down and started dancing with me, like grabbed my hand and started twirling me dancing. i was looking at him as if to figure out who he was. getting that, he said "i just love this song" then the security lady kicked him out since he jumped a section down.
i thought he looked like theplatypus but not as tall.
anyway, this song was a better highlight for me that night than the Ten album part.
and thats how much I like this song
the end

This one sounds different, the intro especially, and has 'avalanches falling fast' instead of 'circumstance, clapping hands'

I absolutely love this song.
Whos doing the background vocals? I think this is the best-sounding harmonies PJ ever had. Is it Jack? It sure doesn't sound like Stone and I dont know another song that sounds as good as this one so that's the only reason Im guessing Jack.

Pretty sure it's just Ed in a higher register.

Loved this song from the second I heard it first played on the radio. The change in the bands sound was a welcome one for me. It felt so good to hear my band go off and grow and experiment. No Code may still be my all time fav PJ record and era. Who You Are just sums all of that up in one song for me.

This is just a really cool song, that I think gets forgotten about a lot because it sounds so different from anything else they ever did before or after.

This song has much more life for me now than ever before. I love the way it breaks down at the end. As the lead single, it alienated a lot of fans and I liked it as it originally appeared on No Code before they fixed the lyrics but it’s a solid song for me.

I absolutely ADORE this song!
Its also very much a time time/place song. Single was released during the summer between my last year of HS and first year of University, hearing it pretty much always takes me back.

I think this is one of the most important songs they ever created. Although they started experimenting with their sound and thereby filtering out some casual fans more noticeably on Vitalogy, releasing "Who You Are" as a single for No Code was the most pronounced demarcation "stay on the bus or get off the bus" point for their audience.
I've always loved it but appreciate more than ever now. If ever Pearl Jam needed to do a song, I think it's this one.

Trampled moss on your souls
Changes all you're a part
Seen it all, not at all
Can't defend fucked up man
Take me a for a ride before we leave...
Circumstance, clapping hands
Driving winds, happenstance
Off the track, in the mud
That's the moss in the aforementioned verse
But he's never mentioned any verse before this point in the song, he had only mentioned moss. The verse isn't aforementioned, the moss is. The lyric should be:
"That's the aforementioned moss in the previous verse"
