I thought she was fine, but I was definitely confused by the sacrifice thing. I'm also not really a star wars fan, so I guess I could have missed some subtext

No, VG, that's not what's happening here. If the things being discussed don't apply to the things you've said, then maybe, just maybe, those comments aren't actually directed at you.

Look at the words you chose in your own post. "I never" and "there are people here." Just because you never said or discussed those things doesn't mean that others haven't/aren't.
