I, am, however, really excited about Beach Bum. I'm going to see it. And if I like it even a little bit, I'll go back and give Spring Breakers a shot. But I'm going to need some shred of proof that Korine has outgrown his own bullshit before I even attempt to watch a movie he made with James Fucking Franco.
I think there's a good chance you will like this considering that three of your favorite posters, VinylGuy, LV, and myself are all into it. And yes, Korine has finally outgrown his bullshit. It took him awhile but he finally reached your level.
Stay classy, Dev.

Have you watched any of his Netflix show?
Also, he was great on Seinfeld’s show and Norm MacDonald’s show.

I wouldn't say greatest American film ever but it's a really solid, deeply entertaining watch. I saw it in like 2013 and still find myself thinking about it from time to time, which is the best indicator of a movie for me.

Reserving judgement until I watch Spring Breakers, but the summary and reviews on wikipedia along with the main Korine article don't really give me much hope. Sounds pretty self-indulgent. Am I way off? What about this stuff appeals to you guys?

I guess Da Vinci was called self-indulgent too in the past?

Very self-indulgent. There are scenes where they repeat a small line of dialogue over and over for like 2 minutes while the camera moves around all hypnotically.. like.. what's the purpose of that? Boring.

“Self-indulgent” is maybe the worst faux-criticism of them all

Again, reserving judgement until I actually see a film of his, but the reviews don't look good.
As far as tree's complaints, that seems like a pretty shallow jab.

"How can an artist be expected not to be self-indulgent? That's the whole thing that's wrong with filmmaking today... To me, art is one man's voice, one idea, one point-of-view, coming from one person."

Moments like these really turned me off. Just felt very pretentious and devoid of meaning/real content.

there isn't one wasted/empty second in Spring Breakers...it's perfect. I could watch it on an endless loop

Even James Franco performing fellatio on a pistol? Most of the movie was either unnecessarily disturbing or meaningless.

I think it set the tone for what came afterwards...pretty much a lot of movies or trap or rap videos look like this movie.

You've seen Rihanna's "Needed Me" video, right?
