Hesitation marks are the superficial wounds created when someone attempts to cut or stab themselves, but can't quite go all the way the first time.

I've thought about it and more than interesting, it sounds like a desperate attempt to sound young and cool. Remember when all those nu-metal bands promoted cutting yourself? That's fucking stupid and I don't just say that because I'm a stepparent.

I kinda feel the same way, regardless of the quality of the material. Im a pretty big fan of Trent´s music, specially his recent output. But some of his themes seems to be getting old and doesnt quite fit with, what it seems, its happening with his life.

Still, im sure this record will be amazing.

Hesitation wounds tend to occur more with suicides than cutters, as it's likely a lot easier to slice up your arms than stab yourself. Nevertheless, the title seemed a little cliche when I first heard it.

That's probably true, yes. 'Came Back Haunted' would go with that theory, being their 'Been Away Too Long.'

I think you guys are way over thinking the title. It easily could refer to where he is career wise. He's done some great soundtrack stuff and How To Destroy Angels. Are those the hesitation marks before he completely kills NIN? For all we know that's what his his wife calls the fart stains on his underwear.
