Cheating a little as it’s not just one band but Chris Cornell. Still not sure how the same dude who put out superunknown also put out scream.

Strong disagree.

All of Cornell's stuff is dreck.

Nonsense.
Euphoria Morning is one of the best albums from the 90s.

I love Soundgarden but don't like any of Cornell's solo output; even Euphoria Morning doesn't do a thing for me.

Agree. One of the best.

At first I wanted to say Neil Young. His best stuff and worst stuff are separated by a very wide canyon. But when I thought more on him and this topic, I realized that an artist that is at least somewhat prolific is obviously going to have low valleys. Especially one who is open to pushing the boundaries and experimenting with his style. He might be an optional answer, but don’t know if he deserves it. Not compared to a band like Weezer who never pushes/pushed themselves, and just keeps making worse and worse versions of the same album. That side of the coin is embarrassing.

There’s a big difference between not being afraid to fail and doing so, and being afraid to fail and still doing so.

Yeah. Uno Dos Tre was a no-go for me. Should have just stuck with the singles from all three albums and left the rest as an Aeroplane Flies High-type box set or something.

Were Aerosmith ever good?

If so, them.

I think the Rolling Stones need to be here. Classic example of just going on too long and tapping the well. They had a phenomenal run, and still hitting their peak 10 to 15 years into their career, but by the 80's and 90's, yikes. Some Girls (1978?) was probably their last great record.

Going from the likes of Exile on Main Street, Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed, and Beggars Banquet to Dirty Work is a pretty big drop off.

Yeah, this is a pretty solid answer. Their 70's stuff is up there with the best of classic rock. Even though they probably got more popular in the 90's, I pretty much hated all those singles / albums.

I love both of the albums they did in the 90s. Up there with their best work.

Rolling Stones is not the best example. Amazing what they have done in their long career.

I also thought about saying Rod Stewart. Not that I’m really that into the Faces or his pre-disco solo stuff, but stuff like Some Guys Have All the Luck and the “bring over some of your old Motown records” song are what I imagine would be playing on hell’s PA system.
