On a side note, it would be interesting to see how people's opinions change based on life circumstance. Having children, for example, often seems to make people more conservative, and understandably so.

Ive had the complete opposite reaction to being a parent.

I've been wrong about many things. One that springs to mind is I felt sure after Newtown happened it would have been the straw that broke the camel's back in regards to the public's opinions on gun control (or, I should say, the amount of pressure the public was willing to place on public officials to enact change). That ended up being pretty wrong.

Understandably? I'm probably more liberal because I have a kid. I want him to have a world to grow up in, that would be cool.

Oh yeah? Do you follow James Renner?

As far as wrong...On the one hand: just how bad the government would get under Trump. On the other hand: how active people are now in politics. I wish it were more, so I guess you could say I'm wrong about that as well.

I would be the same way, but on a very basic level, I can understand the opposite reaction. This was me trying to be fair.

I'll have to try to hunt down some of those threads, because I recall that it felt like myself, punkdavid and thodoks were out on our own island on that one.
g2t was also a big proponent, maybe the biggest.

Yeah that wouldn't surprise me, even though he never liked sports.

I know you're probably referring to the more social "live and let live" branch of libertarian philosophy that surely appealed to our drug loving friend norris in his early 20's, but I'm curious to see if his post has any free market/anti-regulation sheen to it.
