John Prine is someone I've known about for probably 20+ years...I remember working with a guy when I first moved to Oregon who absolutely loved him--but I've just never gotten around to diving in to his vast catalog. Can you guys give me a couple good starting points?

I was specifically thinking of the introductory playlist you made for me a while back when I asked if used Spotify. That playlist is FANTASTIC and a great intro to John Prine.

Nice. I just shared that with someone else who was interested as well.

Thanks, it's got a good mix of his hits and some deep cuts. I tried to balance live and studio, but he is so fucking great live.

Stop it. Just listen to Prine to get you through the cabin fever/depression.
But also reach out if you need an ear, please.

I was sitting in the bathtub counting my toes,
When the radiator broke, water all froze.
I got stuck in the ice without my clothes,
Naked as the eyes of a clown.
I was crying ice cubes hoping I'd croak,
When the sun come through the window, the ice all broke.
I stood up and laughed thought it was a joke
That's the way that the world goes 'round.
That's the way that the world goes 'round.
You're up one day and the next you're down.
It's half an inch of water and you think you're gonna drown.
That's the way that the world goes 'round.

I like the one where the lady thinks the lyrics are about a burrito. Lake Marie seems to take place not far from me and I also just learned Prine is from Cook county.

That's the song I quoted above. She thinks "half an inch of water" is "happy enchilada". He tells stories like that all throughout his shows. It is truly a wonderful experience.

I should really try and listen to the lyrics more closely. The only record of his I own is Tree of Forgiveness. I was texting my mom the other day and mentioned Prine was critical. She didn't know who he was so I shared a lyric video for Summers End. She said she didn't know why, but the song made her cry.

I can't get through that one line in "Angel from Montgomery" without tearing up. Every single time.
There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzing
And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today. How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.

Whenever my wife, who gets home from work after I do in evening, asks me how my day was I never have shit to say. Honestly, I'm usually annoyed by the question.

Interesting list Ruddo. Sounds good. Not too familiar with Prine.
