well, they're generally responsible for gas (unless i'm only familiar with anomalies), so that tends to bias me upwards.theplatypus wrote:How much is one expected to tip delivery guys? This is one I've struggled with. I always end up overtipping.
I've always wondered about this, but never do it. I feel like there's always an awkward moment when I sign my receipt and pick up my carry out bag. Seems like a moment in the air of the person just beaming at me, not believing i didn't tip... and me reciprocating it with a fleeting thought of, "oh man i don't know if i'm supposed to tip, smile and get out of here see ya laterrrrrr"Scott wrote:I never tip on carry out.
No way do I tip on take out, that's a load of crap. I make a point of writing the total in and putting a line through the tip area too.bodysnatcher wrote:I've always wondered about this, but never do it. A little anecdotal evidence on why you should consider it: I started tipping $2 on our Chinese takeout. Ever since, my wait has never been more than 10 minutes, whereas before it was always 30 minutes. That $2 on a $25-$30 meal is really nothing.vegman wrote:No way do I tip on take out, that's a load of crap. When I'm served at a restaurant I leave a standard 20% then I change it up or down according to service.
The wait doesn't bother me so much as the fear that they might put some donkey meat in there. Either way, I'll still cheap out.Chris_H_2 wrote:A little anecdotal evidence on why you should consider it: I started tipping $2 on our Chinese takeout. i tip 2 bucks on my hair cut usually, dont know if there is a normal amount, but its usually 12 dollars for the cut and takes 20 minutesMonkey_Driven wrote:I struggle knowing if/how much to tip with the following situations.
- Haircut (I am bald and my haircuts take about 5 minutes when I don't do it myself)
- A bartender when I order one draft beer or bottle
- Pizza Delivery
Haircut = $3-5 (in your situation, however, I think $2 is fine)Monkey_Driven wrote:I struggle knowing if/how much to tip with the following situations.

I feel like $1 a bottle on a $3 beer is a bit steep. Wouldn't 50 cents work?Chris_H_2 wrote:Haircut = $3-5 (in your situation, however, I think $2 is fine)Monkey_Driven wrote:I struggle knowing if/how much to tip with the following situations.

Yes, but guys don't carry loose change. Always round up or don't tip on the next beer.Monkey_Driven wrote:I feel like $1 a bottle on a $3 beer is a bit steep. By the way, I should've mentioned, if you're buying 4 bottles, I wouldn't tip $1 per. I think $2 total is adequate then.EJ wrote:Yes, but guys don't carry loose change. Thats why I always order multiples, so I dont end up tipping $1 for each bottle/drink. Bring me two, and get a buck.Chris_H_2 wrote:EJ wrote:Yes, but guys don't carry loose change. also, it's easier to get drunker quicker when double fisting.@SkitchP wrote:Thats why I always order multiples, so I dont end up tipping $1 for each bottle/drink. This is true, and also reduces the risk of finishing one while the server is too busy to bring you another quickly. You give yourself a nice buffer zone.spike wrote:also, it's easier to get drunker quicker when double fisting.@SkitchP wrote:Thats why I always order multiples, so I dont end up tipping $1 for each bottle/drink.
