No harm in stating a preference, guys.

I like both a lot and think Harrison is very underrated.

Top to bottom I think McCartney is better...at least I like his music better than Lennon's. Having said that my two favorite Beatle songs are Lennon compositions.

I know what you mean, in that he's sometimes dismissed as the dorky, "poppy" Beatle, but it's important to remember that he's also one of the most successful and celebrated songwriters in modern music. I wouldn't call him an "unsung hero".

Paul was the best Beatle, but in my opinion George had the best solo album with "All Things Must Pass".
did you?

He said McCartney right there. This is a Lennon vs McCartney thread.

exactly, it's a lennon/mccartney thread and he brings up harrison. his comment about mccartney seems solely statistics based, not "preference."

If forced to choose I'd go with Lennon. Most of my most favorite songs are his though I'd be hard pressed to name a Beatles song I didn't like. There are a few I tend to skip and they are Paul's so....

McCartney has a couple albums I can enjoy the whole way through; Ram, Band on the Run, Venus and Mara and Wings Over America. Sounds like I should check out Flaming Pie.

Lennon has a scattershot of some good songs but was a really inconsistent performer and didn't necessarily always get the best performance out of a song. I can think of at least two covers of Jealous Guy that I like more than Lennon's.

On their separate paths they were both good, with my preference being McCartney but together they were golden. Each respecting the other's talents enough to make up for their own weaknesses.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

i know what you're saying, but would you honestly say that bob dylan is a bad artist/songwriter just b/c jimi hendrix played all along the watchtower better?

Dylan, great/amazing songwriter. I wouldn't call him great in the studio and on stage some of his limitations and quirks become very apparent. I'll gladly accept Dylan's limitations to get those songs but i can't act like those limitations don't sometimes hurt the songs as presented.

so using the same thought process, just b/c elliot smith sung his song better, doesn't make john lennon a poor songwriter. glad we could clear that up.
