Spenno's mix. To be blunt, jazz is not my thing. I did get through this whole mix though.

4 made to my listen again and possibly investigate playlist. Dorothy Ashby, Oneohtrix Point Never, Stian Westerhus and the John Barry Ipcress File soundtrack.

*I'll add to this, and rearrange. This is right now just from memory of new songs I know I listened to a lot this year.
I had heard a few of these albums before(Bon Iver, Pixies, SS, Desert). I'll revisit SS and maybe play the Beck and Big Thief albums. Gary Clark Jr wasn't too bad either.

speaking of jazz... Spenno, did you hear the SEED Ensemble album, "Driftglass"?

Varis/Higgs, I've given your mix a listen through, and it's very much in your style. I didn't like every song, but it was pretty enjoyable overall. Chastity Belt, Haiku Salut, Wand, Thelma Plum, Georgia Maq, Joseph Shabason, and Strand of Oaks were my favorites. I thought that Shabason's name and compositional style seemed familiar; turns out I had looked him up a while back as Sandro Perri opened for him last year at his album release show. They've got some aesthetic similarities that you might enjoy.

Thanks for listening Brett. And it made my day to learn that someone thinks I have a style! Sweet!

I'll check out the recommend soon. I've only listened to snc's mixer so far but plan to listen to all as I am off on holidays next week. Yay!

I gotta say, I'm not as big into Spenno's mix as I have been in years past. It's still pretty good, but does lean a bit heavily into stuff that feels like more orthodox jazz, and sometimes that's not my cup of tea. There were a few highlights that stood out, though: Oneohtrix Point Never, Django Reinhart, Stereolab, and Jakob Bro.

I love it but I do appreciate that a 13 minute, early 70s Freddie Hubbard track right in the middle of the mix may be tough going for others!

Thanks for the listen Brett, I'm looking forward to checking out your mix in the coming days as our tastes generally have at least some common ground.

Snc mix. This is usually the highlight mix for me as it usually holds the greatest discoveries. I had previously checked out Weak Signal so that was nice to hear again and I’ll revisit that album. Dark Blue and David Nance popped up again although the production on the Nance is disappointing.

Big Thief and Endless Boogie were damn nice and the Bonnie Prince Billy got through the gap. I really need to catch up on him as the last I really heard was the Cairo Gang in 2010.

Thanks for the playlist.

I had a feeling that I wasn't going to like ridleybradout's mix all that much, as our tastes have not aligned much in the past. Unfortunately, I was correct. The majority of the mix sounds like something that you would hear playing over the PA in a department store. That said, there are a few bits that I found appealing: The National, Thom Yorke, Mark Ronson w/ Angel Olsen, portions of the James Blake song, and Wilco. Overall, it's not my thing, but thanks for the insights, Brad.

Cheers Strat. Higgs alerted me to that Chris Forsyth album. It's long but enjoyable.

Lots of good songs last year, not too many top albums though.

Oof, now I feel kinda bad for not really getting into your mix, LMS. Anthemic indie rock stuff doesn't often do it for me, especially in such profusion. I do need to go back to it and see if I can suss out any highlights, though.

I'm glad you're liking what you've heard so far. Gwei-lo were an unfortunately short-lived group from the late '90s. They put out a couple collections of b-sides and stuff in 2019. Pretty much everything they ever recorded can be heard here: https://thejohnsonsound.com/gwei-lo/.

Thanks for that link to the Gizeh comp. I've been thinking about checking out some of their other stuff. I've liked a few Nadja and Aidan Baker releases in the past.

No worries, Brett. Most of my listening this year was pretty conservative.

I listened to Plat's and the Fiona Apple, Elvis, Wet and Hop Along tracks were nice. I listened to Maggie Rogers when it came out and there's definitely something there but it isn't sticking.
