Some thoughts:
In Deep Owl shows how good Ben is as a songwriter and musician. Most of his strengths are well showcased here; his guitar playing has improved a lot since the Hater days and i really love his low pitch voice that i didnt remember he had (though in Attrition he does this and its cool too).
Im guessing SG would be a very different band if not for Ben... He is as important as anyone there, but i think SG´s big change from this weird metal band to a very classy psychadelic sound have more to do with him than anyone else.
Some songs here should or could have been SG songs ( Baron Robber, Keystone) but the whole record shares a very closed concept unity that works very well, and it feels really like a solo album instead of some recollection of songs he didnt record with SG.

I'd hoped that, since a Bandcamp page was set up for the vinyl pre-orders, I'd be able to buy it through there in FLAC once it was out.
Guess I won't be hearing this record after all. Bummer.

Some good info from Ben itself...i love this part: "Like “Koda,” Matt played to a completely different song that’s not heard. I took all the music off and just used his drum tracks and made up a completely new song from what he drummed. So he didn’t even recognize his drumming when he heard it. He was like, “Who’s drumming on that song? That’s amazing,” cause it sounds all random and weird"

Really liking this album. It's got character. And there are a couple of tracks that should have been on King Animal. What fools.

I suppose there's zero chance of getting a hold of this anywhere other than iTunes or some bullshit though, I hate buying digital albums
